I read on this site that the original marriage papers would show a lot of information about the bride and groom. Charles Smith and Mathilde Sanderson were married on 14 Feb 1861 in Old Fort William, Calcutta. Other than the church registry what would be available as far as marriage records? If there is additional info to be had where would I find and request copies the records or documents? After looking since 1997 for this family last month I found Mathilde Sanderson, dau of James, was born in Paris, France. She and her children sailed to the United States from Hamburg La Harve in 1872 on the ship Selesia. I have not found her husband Charles in the United States or setting sail. Their last child, Lilian S. Smith, was born in Gotha, Germany. Sadly, I followed 3 of the 4 of the children who came to the USA to their demises and I have no direct living relatives. A lead for James Sanderson is that I found he may have been an asst. surgeon and his wife may have worked for the medical service as a nurse. If someone has a listing of asst surgeons I would appreciate any information you may find in a look-up for me. Susan St. John
