Hello Ainslie, I have been searching through four books on Simla, and cannot find any reference to the West End Hotel, Simla. However, I do have one - ""Residents of Simla 1989" .."an alphabetical list of the Principal British Residents and their addresses" which lists many hotels but no reference to the one you are looking for. The Grand Hotel features in two of them, with some early photos of it. A paricuularly good print of it in the book "Simla, A Hill Station in British India" by Barr & Desmond. I could copy this to you if you are interested. Also, give my your grandfather's name, I will look it up in the "Residents of Simla" booklet.
