Hi, I am hoping someone on the list may be able to help! I am now in touch with 3 other descendants of William Porter dob 1825, and none of us have been able to follow his line further back. I know his father was named Edward from William's two marriage certificates. According to the 1841 to 1891 censuses he was born variously in India, India (British Subject), At Sea, and West Indies. I have now seen a very old photo which it is beleived is a photo of William and his wife Sarah, and he does actually look Indian. I am wondering if his father Edward was in India possibly with the army, and married a local girl.
