Thanks maureen, alas not much help, i am looking for links to my G/G/Dad who was the BANDMASTER to the 8th Kings Royal Irish Hussars, I know as a fact he died in Meerut 1880, i have visited the Reg/ts Museum here in the U.K., but alas they hold no records or archives of the Reg/t in India, very frustrating, it would appear the Reg/t past has been neglected which i find strange, as they were a well known Reg/t well will have to try perhaps the MEERUT web site, last resort Cheers B.W-King
The Army College of Music is at Kneller Hall, near Twickenham. Because of the volume of trainees that would have passed through it is unlikely that they would have individual records but their web site may be worth a look, click on the "History" link at www.army.uk Also, the Special Issue 33 of "Regiment" magazine has an article and paintings of the 8th Kings Royal Irish Hussars but of the relevant period all it states is :- ".....until they were ordered aroad again to participate in the 2nd Afghan War of 1878-1880. During this time the regiment suffered badly from the effects of the Indian climate and disease, but nevertheless took an active part in the campaign. This Indian tour did not terminate until 1889, after which they were employed at home until the outbreak of the Boer War....." There also is a painting of the regiment's kettle drummer of 1886. brinds
