I subscribed to Findmypast (using least credits) and found this record. William Brown dob 1784, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland 18 years, Attestation date: 25 November 1802 to 1835, Discharge rank: Serjeant Corps: Royal Ayrshire Regt of Militia. I take it he is not the one I am looking for as there is nothing listed under "In East of w. India." There are many more William Brown's listed, one that says 2nd Regt. Life Guards, which I also assume is not him and I cannot afford to look at each and every one of these, especially when there are no places of birth or year of birth listed and I do not know the year of birth. Any ideas? Starting with 60 credits, I now have only 20 left after this record! Elaine Sharp The FIBIS Database has a reference for a Bengal Officer William Brown 1795 -1845 which could possibly be him, although it would mean he married at age 18. The reference is to an entry in the book "List of the Officers of the Bengal Army, 1758-1834" by V. C .P. Hodson, which is available on LDS microfilm, if Elaine does not have access to this book in a library.
