    3. Hi Listers: I am still trying to solve the murder mystery of my gg grandfather John WHITTAKER in the 1860s in India. He was born in about 1827 in Oulton, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. A joiner, cabinetmaker, builder by occupation. We recently heard a new clue that he was employed by various railway contractors, and so my cousin found the following information in several Almanacs. (see below). 1857: no listing for John WHITTAKER 1858: John Whittaker, carpenter, Jackson's Railway Works, Nassick (now called Nashick). Jackson's = Jackson amd Whyte's, Railroad Contractors, Nassick. 1859: no listing for J.W. 1860 & 1861: John Whittaker, Timber Contractor to Messrs. Lee, Watson, & Aiton, Railway Contractors, Baitool and Oommrawattee Does anyone know anything about any of these railway contractors? I read in the Rootsweb archives of a book called "Building the Railways of the Raj - 1850 to 1900" by Ian J. Kerr, but as it's out of print, I have been unable to find a copy to either read or buy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Marina Ontario, Canada
