Thank you very much Frances, you've been a great help. I found Thomas in various Army Lists through Google Books too - 1818 (both he and your Colin mentioned), 1820 (only Thomas), 1822 and 1823, although Thomas died in Bombay on the 12th of November, 1822. I've no idea where to even start trying to find any info on his death. I didn't know when he was promoted to Captain, so thank you for that info. I've already searched FIBIS, Family Search and the British Library site - not much joy there I'm afraid, but the Museum looks very promising and I'll definitely get in touch with them. While Googling, I came across this information regarding where the 67th was at any given time - this is how I surmised that George was born in Dinapore. You may be interested in it. http://www.ans.com.au/~rampais/genelogy/india/indexes/kitz.htm I guess my idea that George was born in Dinapore (also in 1809) was probably correct, seeing as how you also have a birth there in the same year. Did you use an on-line search of the British Library India Office Records to get the birth certificate, or did you just contact the Library and ask for a search? I know the family was originally from Ireland because Thomas's son, George, (who was apparently born in India, or so several people researching the family mentioned on RootsChat) came out to Tasmania as a pioneer settler from Co. Westmeath. George's brother-in-law, James Fenton, also a pioneer settler in northern Tasmania, wrote several books regarding the early Tasmanian years and gives quite a bit of information on George which was very helpful. The Irish records seem very user unfriendly and scarce though, and I haven't made any headway in Ireland since. I'm really struggling to get any further with this line, especially as nothing comes up in any of the online databases for them but I appreciate your help very much and you've certainly given me some further avenues to explore. If I come across anything which I think you could also use in your tree, I'll forward it to you.
