Hello: I am new to the India List and am hoping that someone can help me knock down a brick wall. I am not looking for a family, births, marriages or deaths but am trying to identify what military unit my gt grandfather, William Henry Button, served with. I have looked through the medal rolls but can't identify which W Button is the correct one and I am hoping that some family lore might lead to identifying him William Henry Button (b 1883, Nottingham) initially joined the army to fight in the Boer War but was bought out by his parents. He later joined the army (maybe at outbreak of WW1 as he was still at family household in 1911 census) and during WW1 served with the forces in France, Salonica and the Dardenelles. He also served in India for seven years as Quartermaster Sargeant. And while in India he was flyweight boxing champion three years running. I am hoping that the boxing title might lead to identifying his unit. I tried contacting the Army Boxing Association but got no response. Can anyone on the list provide any clues?
