Dear Listers Some of my military relatives are proving to be a bit confusing. In 1808 Stephen PARISH was a Matross (?) in Captain Taylor's Company 2nd Battalion in Trichinopoly according to his son's baptism - N/ 2/3/264. Stephen arrived in 1800 aged 23 according to the 1808 muster roll. Stephen married Susannah MASON in 1802. Their child Susannah PARISH was born in 1809 in Vizagapatam. I can't seem to find any information on the Company that he was in and I would like to trace his career and perhaps even find his death record. James RICHARDSON No. 1930 (Stephen's son in law) was a Gunner in the Right Wing Carnatic European Veterans Battalion (Muster Roll 1824) he arrived in 1808 aged 34. He married Susannah PARISH in 1820 Vizagapatam and it seems she was only 11 years old at the time. Apparently James died sometime around 1828 as his wife Susannah remarried in 1829 in Vizagapatam, their child Maria RICHARDSON was born in 1824 in Vizagapatam. I have googled the Carnatic European Veterans Battalion but can't seem to find much information on them at all. I have found no death record for James. Thomas GASKELL (GASKILL/GASCALL) No. 2/28 or 2000 arrived in 1823 aged 38 as a Gunner for the 2nd Battalion (?) Must Roll 1842 and Madras Register of European Soldiers L/MIL/11/101, apparently Thomas was invalided in 1839 (same reference) and in 1840 was a Private in CEOB (?) in 1842 Thomas married Maria RICHARDSON in Madras at that time he was a Gunner in European Veterans Comp. Artillery. I was wondering whether Thomas was transferred to the EVCA due to his being invalided (?) and whether this was the same company as the Carnatic battalion that his father in law was in. Thomas died in 1859 according to the Casualty Rolls L/MIL/11/232. I would be grateful for any information or advice relating to researching further these battalions and their movements.
