Hi List, I have several ancestors in my India family tree who appear to descend from Irish/RC backgrounds - names (first & surname) and occupations/regiments substantiate this. However, this line of my family are scant in all of the available records - BL, LDS, FIBIS I therefore wonder whether a military expert can advise on the campaigns and movements of the 87th Royal Irish Fusiliers (Regiment of Foot)? I have a marriage in 1855, so I know that my 3xG Grandfather was in India by that time as a Sargeant in the above regiment but I wonder what records I should look at to find out:- When he enlisted? Where men for this regiment were enlisted? When this regiment travelled to India What were this regiments movements earlier than 1855 Really I am just trying to find out where/what I should look at to find earlier records of this line.
