Is there a list somewhere of those who died in the Indian Mutiny? Does it include an Esther FRASER, wife of John FRASER, a private in the 12th Lancers? The reason I ask is as follows: John FRASER married Esther STANBRIDGE in Canterbury registration district in the 3rd quarter of 1856. In August 1856, the 12th Lancers set off for foreign service, stationed at Secunderabad. A daughter, Esther Elizabeth, was born at sea on 18 Sep 1856 and baptized in Bangalore on 3 Feb 1857. A second daughter, Jane, was born in Secunderabad in 1857 or 1858 (aged 3 in the 1861 census). Presumably Esther died in 1857-1860, although I have not found a record of this. In the 4th quarter of 1860, John was back in England marrying Esther's sister Lemery (in Leeds registration district). In the 1861 census, John, Lemery, and the two girls were living with the 12th Lancers in barracks in Leeds. Esther could, of course, have died from natural causes, but the date is suggestive. Daniel
