    1. [INDIA] [INDIA-L] Alice Edith O'SULLIVAN, nee CAMPBELL
    2. Mark O'Sullivan
    3. Information please on Alice Edith Campbell. She was married in Bombay 2 August 1879 to Surgeon Patrick Joseph O'Sullivan of the Army Medical Service. Surg. O'Sullivan was shortly thereafter stationed at Peshawar, Murree and Rawalpindi. He was posted back to Aldershot between 27 December 1883 and 9 March 1886, after which he returned to India; between January and July 1887 he was temporarily sent to take charge of the British General Hospital Burmah in Rangoon; between 22 August 1887 and 21 February 1888 he was transferred back to the UK sick, and then returned once more to India. Alice Edith must have died by 1889, when he remarried in Lahore. She may have been known as Edith, and born in Cornwall, as there is family tradition of this. I cannot find her christening or funeral in the ecclesiastical records in the BL APAC (India Office) collection, nor anyone of that name for appropriate years in the England & Wales records either of birth records for Cornwall, or of deaths. However, an Edith Campbell appears in the 1871 census living in Godalming aged 22 and born in St Agnes Cornwall. Mark O'Sullivan Somerset

    1. [INDIA] [INDIA-L] Alice Edith O'SULLIVAN, formerly CAMPBELL
    2. Mark O'Sullivan
    3. This is a repeat of an inquiry last July. I cannot find her christening or funeral in the ecclesiastical records in the BL APAC (India Office) collection, nor anyone of that name for appropriate years in the England & Wales records either of births in Cornwall, or of deaths. Campbell itself may have been a married name. A married Edith Campbell appears in the 1871 census, aged 22 and born in St Agnes Cornwall, and living in Godalming - suggestively close to the Aldershot army base. There is also an Edith Perry, aged 12, born in "Cornwall", in the 1861 census at Woodville House, Ilfracombe, with her family (headed by an aunt, Mary Ann Dymock, a clergyman's widow); and an Edith Adelaide Perry aged 3, daughter of a clergyman in St Agnes, Cornwall, in the 1851 census. Has anyone come across an Edith O'Sullivan between August 1879 and December 1888, or an Edith Campbell between 1864 and 1879, or an Edith Perry between 1848 and 1879? Mark O'Sullivan Somerset
