Hi This is my first posting to this list and I am trying to find some details on Francis(Frank) Frederick ARCHER who spent some time in India and also his wife. Elizabeth West went out to India from England to marry Frank on 25 August 1885 at the Wesleyan Mission Church at Royapetta Madras. I have an advertisement which states: Mr Frank Archer, Practical Watch & Clock Maker from London - begs to inform the INHABITANTS OF COCHIN, that He is now here on a visit, and is ready to do all kinds of repairs to Watches, Clocks, Musical Boxes, Sewing Machines etc etc. Will call at private residences if required. CHARGES MODERATE. Apply to the above at Mr F B MICHAEL'S, SHIP SUPPLIER, PRINCES' STREET. I also have family papers that state he was at the Telegraph Works, Madras RY CO, ARCONUM, MADRAS, INDIA. Another letter is from a Lt Col E Begbie, Q's O Madras Sappers, dated 5 July 1885, Bangalore. It is addressed to Frank Archer and speaks about some work being done at (Mr) or Mt Helios.....My assistant, Quarter Master Sergeant Beard will arrive at Arconum....and look over the alterations. Frank & Elizabeth Archer were believed to have had two children who died in India as well before they went back to England and subsequently emigrated to Australia. Could someone suggest how I check the passenger lists to find them, either on the trips to and from India and to Australia from England. Their first child born in Enfield Australia was born in March 1888. I suspect they paid their own way to Australia so it will be hard to find them. I also welcome any contact with anyone tracing the same family. Thanking you Vicki
