    1. [INDIA] STEPHENS
    2. David Railton
    3. Family Search Beta shows the marriage of James Alexander STEPHENS to Alice Maude MCVOY (MACVOY/MCAVOY/MCBOY) at Calcutta on 20 April 1892. Family Search (not Beta) shows the birth of Douglas Stephens in June 1893 at Calcutta to James and Alice STEPHENS. Douglas died a month later. I believe that James and Alice may have had at least one more child but I can find no record. Does anyone know anything of this family? David

And if so, could you let me know, because I'm having some difficulty fitting these 'strays' into my tree. Ann Maria CARLIER (b 1847) married Daniel ELLIOTT in 1868 in Vepery, Madras. She died in 1870 in Vepery. Her parents were Daniel CARLIER and Ann. I haven't found any record of children. Her sister, Charlotte Elizabeth CARLIER (b 1851) married George William JACOBS in 1871 in Madras, Madras. Charlotte died in 1898 in Washermanpettah, Madras. Her parents were Daniel CARLIER and Ann. Charlotte and George had the following children: Anne Mary Louisa Jacobs (1872-1902) Daniel Alexander Jacobs (1874-1877) Mercy Beatrice Jacobs (1877-1898) William Ernest Balfour Jacobs (1879-1879) Albert Christopher Carlier Jacobs (1883-1898) William Oswald Carlier Jacobs (1886-1900) James Edwin Carlier Jacobs (1890- ?) 3. Hello List Tas said: I am searching for the family of Samuel Peevers of the 73rd Regiment that departed Van Diemans land in 1814 for Ceylon, on the way Samuel died, I am trying to find where and how His Wife and two children moved to after they arrived in Ceylon? Samuel Married Mary McCloud in 1810. The FIBIS Fibiwiki has a page 73rd Regiment of Foot http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php?title=73rd_Regiment_of_Foot The links indicate that the regiment stayed in Ceylon until 1821 I think the most likely outcome as to what happened to Mary Peevers and her children is what usually happened with regimental widows- they remarried a soldier in the same regiment, usually within three months of their widowhood. If she and her children survived the years in Ceylon, they would have travelled with her second husband back to England in 1821. I tried the British Army Overseas index. There is a link on the FIBIS Fibiwiki page http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php?title=Chaplains_Returns There is no Mary Peevers listed in the marriages, but a Samuel Peevers married in Gibraltar in 1850-1859. The GRO also has some unindexed regimental marriages, for which they will do a search. Cheers Maureen (Sydney)

It has maps and also has an index with names. I was able through an interlibrary loan to look at the actual book which was really nice. I have printed off the internet some of the indices but my genealogy files are not accessible now. New computer. Are you the same as Nostradamus screen name? As I said in my earlier e-mail my greatgreatgrandfather was an English Methodist Missionary to India in the Mysore District from 1863 to 1875. My greatgrandfather was born in India. Were your missionary relatives Methodists or another denomination? Look forward to hearing from you. If your guys are Methodists I have some places for you to look for info. 3. Hi Mary and Joan, I noticed your query as to the name - I have relatives in Tasmania with the surname "Hervey" so that could be another option as I see you have written "Henvey" - seeing this in an old handwritten document it may look like "Hervey". Good luck with your research - deciphering handwriting from a century or so ago can be quite puzzling. Cheers Ainslie.

An often inaccurate family source says it was granted for "getting 300 Hindus out of Pakistan during riots following separation of Pakistan." The master-attendants who are to remain are not to be allowed any fees or to trade, but their salary is to be very considerably increased.

    1. [INDIA] Missing Child
    2. Hello Listers, I was able to access the passenger list inside the ship's journal that carried Jane Cumming to England. I knew that she had been accompanied by an ayah, but discovered that she also travelled with a younger brother. The younger brother seems to have fallen below the historical radar. I am assuming that he died but can find no OPR death record on Scotlandspeople or Ancestry.com. There is the remote possibility that he was sent back with the ayah, but that would involve searching through more ship's journals. That in itself would not be all that time-consuming because there weren't all that many EIC vessels that made the journey each year and not all of them stopped at Calcutta ports, but I am not in a position to do that research right now. Any suggestions about what happened to this child or how to find out what happened to him? Frances
