    3. Maureen said " Records for the period 1760-1900 are now available online. " I thought I would try these records and was disappointed not to find an ancestor whose records I had copied some years ago at Kew.  I will now look into why they didn't come up, but I would just like to warn people that if they don't find the person they are looking for, they shouldn't close their minds to that source. 1. [INDIA] Scott family
    2. Ann Johnston
    3. I am still looking for the parentage of Arthur Scott (1820-1857) who was killed at the seige of Jhansi and his wife Ruth Callaghan who he married at Nagpur in 1840. Their eldest son Edmund Arthur (sometimes called Arthur Edmund) (1843-1882) appears to have married a relative, possibly a cousin, called Ann Scott (1852-? ) daughter of William David Scott and Sarah Ann (nee Bradshaw) of Madras, and grandaughter of a James and Anne Scott . Edmund Arthur Scott was a school master attached to the E I Railway. I have found 2 children so far for him and his wife Ann Scott ; Frederick Walter Scott (1869-1918) and Christiana Blanche Ruth Scott (1873-?) who married Robert William Nessor in 1893. Any additional information on any of these people would be very much appreciated Ann Johnston

Author: railtond Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.asia.india.general/2517/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am returning to an enquiry I made a few years ago in the hope of new information. I am interested in finding out about a J E SASSOON born about 1882 probably in India and described as a merchant. His wife was Annie J SASSOON. The only child that I know of was born in about 1919 and named Dorothy although I have also seen her name given as Florence. I know that Dorothy was handicapped in some way and needed the constant attention of nurses. I am interested in finding out who they were and how they were connected to the SASSOON family in India. 1. [INDIA] MALONY/JONES/ALMER
    2. David Railton
    3. The records show that Morgan MALONY married Charlotte JONES on 23 April 1815 at Fort William, Bengal. The following year Morgan died. He was buried at Cawnpore on 11 September 1916 and is described as white and a private in HM 66 Regiment. Charlotte did not wait more than a few days to marry again; this time to James ALMER on 28 September 1916 at Cawnpore. As ALMER is a rather uncommon surname I wonder if it should be AYLMER. My main interest is in Charlotte and I am interested in trying to find if she was the Charlotte JONES born about 1782 who was baptised in Bengal on 15 September 1789. Does anyone know anything of these people? David

    1. [INDIA] About old Engines!
    2. Peter Rogers
    3. 11. 31 July 2010. India. New lease of life for world's oldest steam locomotive The world's oldest steam locomotive is all set to chug again and thrill train lovers in a Heritage Run planned in Chennai soon. T he 155-year-old ‘Express Loco' built by Kitson Thomson and Hewitson Leeds, United Kingdom, was used by the East Indian Railway until 1909. For the century it has been an exhibit at Jamalpur and Howrah. The ‘Express Loco' christened ‘EIR 21' was brought by road to the Perambur Loco Works four months ago. The 130-horse power locomotive was dismantled to enable corrosion repairs. “The only major replacement was the injector. We have introduced air brakes as the vacuum braking system is not in vogue. The steam-fired locomotive can haul at least four coaches comfortably,” said Southern Railway Chief Mechanical Engineer V. Carmelus. The Heritage Run is planned between Royapuram, the oldest railway station building in Southern Railway, and Avadi. Source: The Hindu So if you are there perhaps you will get a wiff of old steam..... 3. The Army College of Music is at Kneller Hall, near Twickenham. Because of the volume of trainees that would have passed through it is unlikely that they would have individual records but their web site may be worth a look, click on the "History" link at www.army.uk Also, the Special Issue 33 of "Regiment" magazine has an article and paintings of the 8th Kings Royal Irish Hussars but of the relevant period all it states is :- ".....until they were ordered aroad again to participate in the 2nd Afghan War of 1878-1880. During this time the regiment suffered badly from the effects of the Indian climate and disease, but nevertheless took an active part in the campaign. This Indian tour did not terminate until 1889, after which they were employed at home until the outbreak of the Boer War....." There also is a painting of the regiment's kettle drummer of 1886. brinds
