    3. Hello Gaye If you go to the FIBIS site at www.fibis.org and type in the name Porter you will find the name mentioned quite often as well as births, however the christian names of the children are not mentioned and the births only state son or daughter of Mrs Porter but worth a look. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: noewhiteuk Surnames: Shunker, Schunker, D'Monte, Schwenke Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.asia.india.general/2481.1.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Lynda and Jon, Just been catching up on all the information flying round about the Shunkers (and May Irene, my mother, in particular). I've also just discovered the FIBIS ancestry website and have unearthed some information that's new to me. For instance: that a W?? Shunker married a Lucretia Collick in 1856, (Note that her name is spelt with a C), presumably this W?? was our William. Christopher D'Monte was married to a Euphemia, (maiden name unknown), who died. They had a daughter Rosemund Matilda. He then married Clarissa Shunker in 1870(also recorded as M.C. Eva Shunker) on the same record. They had a 3 daughters, Harriet Constance, Daisy and Violet. Harriet was - we think - May Irene's mother and half sister to Rosemund (also known as Rose). Clarissa was a sister of William who was married to Lucretia Collick. It appears that my Grandfather Victor George Shunker was married to Rosemund first then to Harriet followed by Ivy Chatterton and Ruth Glendinning (nee Taylor). In response to various other threads I've spotted, (I apologise if this is old information), I notice that Edward C Shunker married an Annie E Schwenke in 1869. It's also very interesting to learn that there was a Noel Schunker in Lahore. We're still no closer to discovering where my mother May Irene was born however, if you're interested Lynda, my father George William White, is buried in Hosur (Oosur) Road cemetery in Bangalore. The Hosur Road runs along one side of the Baldwin Boys High School, to which I went as a kid. Noel White Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. Hi, I am hoping someone on the list may be able to help! I am now in touch with 3 other descendants of William Porter dob 1825, and none of us have been able to follow his line further back. I know his father was named Edward from William's two marriage certificates. According to the 1841 to 1891 censuses he was born variously in India, India (British Subject), At Sea, and West Indies. I have now seen a very old photo which it is beleived is a photo of William and his wife Sarah, and he does actually look Indian. I am wondering if his father Edward was in India possibly with the army, and married a local girl. Is there anybody who can suggest where I might be able to find out any more information about William's birth, or anything about his parents? Thankyou. Gaye Sprakes (3xGreat-grandaughter)

    1. [INDIA] Iyencovil
    2. Peter & Amanda
    3. In the early 1900's there was a home in our family called "Iyencovil". Our family has long ties with India as planters in the Nilgiri Hills and so I have often thought that the name may have Indian links. It seems I may have been correct, because the only time I have come across it has been in volume 1 of the 1878 edition of a book called "A history of Travancore from the earliest times" by P. Shungoonny Menon. In a chapter entitled 'Reign of Dasa Vanji Pala Marthanda' it reads: "On the 1st Mithunam (13th June), the Maha Rajah left for Kilialloor. Thence the Maha Rajah proceeded to Ambalapulay. On the 10th Mithunam (22nd June), the Maha Rajah visited Iyencovil. On the 18th and 19th Mithunam etc, etc" Is there anyone out there who knows what or where "Iyencovil" is or was? The fact that the Maha Rajah visited it, suggests that it might have been a shrine or temple of some sort. Many thanks in advance for any help. Peter

    1. [INDIA] Edmund Daniel Adolphus REEVE(S)
    2. Hughes, Lynden M
    3. Does anyone have access to Allens Indian Mail for 1858? I am looking for a report of the possible wrongdoing of Edmund Daniel Adolphus Reeve(s), who had been a "Police Inspector, 3rd Grade" in Calcutta, between 1853 and 1858. Unfortunately he died on March 7th 1858, at the Calcutta House of Correction, where it seems he had been an inmate. I am hoping that as a policeman who had committed some crime, the local papers would have run a report on it. I have checked Allens India Mail from 1855 to the end of 1857 without any joy, so it is a strong possibility that he was only incarcerated since the beginning of January 1858 at the earliest. Can anyone direct me to either the relevant issues of Allens Indian Mail or similar? Many thanks Lynden

I believe she married in Bengal Presidency sometime around 1910 and died some years later in childbirth. Her nickname was Queenie. I can find some of her siblings records but nothing on her. One possible source for the birth of Victoria Maud McCaw is the Army Overseas Index, refer the FIBIS Fibiwiki page Chaplains Returns for details http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php?title=Chaplains_Returns I did check these Overseas Army indexes for her marriage for two range of dates including 1910,1911, but there wasn't anything, although there were some McCaw names Cheers Maureen (Sydney)
