    3. Hi Mark: As a child in the 1920's I heard my teen-age uncles talk about this unit.  I think it functioned as a "Reserve" to be called upon when needed as in war time. They also referred to it as the "Madras Guard".   I never heard anything about it in the 1930's and I believe it must have been abolished sometime in the 1930's. Sincerely, Moira Breen USA ________________________________ From: Mark Steevens <markspark53@gmail.com> To: india@rootsweb.com Sent: Tue, October 19, 2010 7:05:28 AM Subject: [INDIA] Anglo Indian Force I have a marriage at Madras in 1919 of Edward William Steevens, presumably the son of my grandfather through his first wife (as yet unidentified.) 3. In response to Anne's query, Apcar is an Armenian name. Several Apcars were prominent businessmen in Calcutta, being leading citizens and racing enthusiasts, while the shipping firm of Apcar and Company was well known in the region and beyond. Apcar Leslie De Vine was a noted soldier in the Australian forces in WW1. Mackertich also is an Armenian name: the ancestors of both families had come from Persia. krs Nadia Wright Nadia Wright Amassia Publishing http://www.amassia.com.au

    3. They married in Madras: 1876, June 3rd at Madras, James Brander, to Isabel Bain Just that simple announcement appeared in Domestic Occurrences in The Times of India for 8th June 1876 - available on the FIBIS database as a result of a volunteer indexing project. I couldn't find any mention of them on the FamilySearch beta - but like all datasets for India, this is most certainly not a complete record of all events. Suggest you consult the India Office Madras marriage indexes. 1. [INDIA] FW: John CAMERON Military Service record
    2. Maureen Evers
    3. Hello List Penny said: Does anyone know where I can find the Military service record for my ancestor who serviced in India and Died in Myanmar. John CAMERON b. abt 1841 Scotland. Was in India in the army supposed to be the Welsh Fusiliers as some sort of Medical Person. Married Martha Woods on 26 Feb 1863 in Ferozepore, India and had 9 children. He died on 13th Dec 1927 in Maymyo, Myanmar - and it was reported that when he died he had a military funeral with a gun carriage. As he had a military funeral, it does sound that he was in the Army when he died. The FIBIS Fibiwiki has the page "23rd Regiment of Foot" which was also known as the Welsh/Welch Fusiliers http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php?title=23rd_Regiment_of_Foot However, the links given for deployments give no indication the regiment was in Burma in 1927, probably indicating that John Cameron was then in another British Army regiment, or perhaps he had transferred at some point to the Indian Army. As John Cameron was a Medical Person, he may have been in the Royal Army Medical Corps and moved from regiment to regiment. This unit was part of the British Army. If he was in the British Army at the time of his death in 1927, the service records , if any, will be with the Army, see FIBIS Fibiwiki British Army, Section 4.5 http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php?title=British_Army However, for earlier periods, the service records (National Archives WO 97 records) do not include records for soldiers who died in service. If he had transferred to the Indian Army, there may be a service record at the British Library. However again, it is not known whether the records include records for men who died in service. See the FIBIS Fibiwki Indian Army, section Records for details. http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php?title=Indian_Army If Penny is a FIBIS Member, she can request that research be carried out if she is unable to go to the British Library. Hello List Janice said: Can anyone help to look plus solve a mystery, I have a Frederick Llewellyn Aitkins also known as Llewellyn Frederick born 29th August 1915 I have him baptised at the (Wesleyan) Methodist Church what looks like Popham's Broadway Madras, on 19th September 1915 abode give as Lahore. Now the mystery is was he born in Madras or Lahore documents I have shown his place of birth as both so would like to know which is correct, also is Lahore in anyway in Madras or close as it seems funny I thought that they were thousands of miles apart, any help would be very much appreciated It sounds as though the family usually lived in Lahore, and visited Madras, perhaps to visit family or friends, where the baptism took place. However I think it's a guess whether the birth took place in Lahore or Madras. As Lahore was the capital of the Punjab, and probably had reasonable facilities for a birth, I would be inclined to think it was more likely the birth took place in Lahore, then the journey to Madras took place. However either is possible. Janice does not say where her information came from. If it was not from the British Library, she could try the British Library ecclesiastical records. If there is one there (I'm not sure whether Methodist baptisms would be included or not) the information might be in a slightly different form which could give a clue. Janice could try to access some Lahore newspapers for the relevant period. Perhaps the British Library may have them. They do have many microfilms of newspapers. There may be a birth announcement, usually under the heading Domestic Occurrences.
