If neither of these records is available on-line, my further suggestion is that the data were provided by a researcher such as Donald Jacques or via the Fibis Research Service. It is likely that she had been a ward for some years and, not having married earlier, was able to help with looking after the younger children. At age 21, she might have had to be given a more formal position. Good Hunting! Peter Bailey Chairman Families in British India Society www.fibis.org

I purely forward it to the List in the hope that it's of use to someone. 1. [INDIA] Bock in India
    2. Lorraine
    3. Hello listers. I'm looking for more info on Thomas Robertson BOCK. Baptised 1 Sep 1820 Stepney, England, son of John Thomas BOCK & Charlotte BESSELL. Thomas married Charlotte CURTIS in 1844 & had a son Alfred Robertson BOCK in 1845. At some stage Thomas & family went to India where he was supposedly an indigo planter. On 1 Jan 1849 he married Mary Ann MAY, daughter of Thomas Percy KNIGHT & 5 children were born. On familysearch beta I've found descendents of Alfred but I wonder if there's anyone else out there researching any branches of the Bock family that started with Frederick BOCK (Tobacconist at St Martins, Westminster, London) & Maria Theresa GIGNEUX/GIGNOUES. Here's hoping! Lorraine

    3. Hi Listers, I have a relative, Sophia Tubbs, ward of the LOS, married at the house of the Chaplain in Dum Dum 1816 to John Blake, a teacher in the LOS. No father's name is given for her. A burial in 1836 gives her age as 40, widow of John Blyth (John Blake being an alias at the time of marriage) i.e. 1796 birth. A baptism takes place in 1798 (source British Library microfilm) giving father's name William Tubbs. The burial and baptism both point towards having an age of 20 at the time of the marriage. What are your thoughts on this age being too old for still being a WARD of the LOS? Many thanks, Richard

    1. [INDIA] East India Company Ship Question
    2. Hello, I continue to investigate the life of George Cumming. He died in December 1800 on board the Anna, somewhere around the Cape of Good Hope. The ship's journal states that his effects were transferred to a Danish ship. The captain's handwriting and syntax are both problematic so I can't tell if his body was, too. My questions relate to the effects and the Danish ship. 1. Does anyone have any knowledge or thoughts about what these effects might have been? 2. At DKR 575/hr (I think that about US $ 100), the Danish archives are willing to undertake a search of their records to find out the name of the Danish ship and whatever other relevant information they can find about the transfer. Obviously, they cannot guarantee that they will find anything. I am mighty curious but the price is steep, I think. Has anybody had any experience working with the Danish archives? Best, Frances Singh

An hour long with an English translators voice over the voices, music etc of Rajasthan ..made in India by an EU funded organisation. As many of these type of films are re programmed may I suggest that you keep a look out as I think that, even if horses are not your thing, you will find it a fascinating show. 3. I apologize to anyone who may have a problem with this link. My thanks to Ann for responding so quickly.  I went to it before I sent the email to be sure I had no problems.  Some people had a problem opening Dick Eastman's Newsletter a year or more ago.  He said the problem was IE8 and mentioned recently that the fix would be in IE9.  If the page did not open he told his readers to go to the small box to the right of the URL box and click on the broken page.  That fixed it for me and apparently everyone else because he never wrote about it again. I completely agree with Ann who wrote about the problem she had and Microsoft's suggestion that she upgrade to a Beta version of IE9.  I would never do that either.  Hopefully others will not have the same problem and will be able to watch the videos. I have deleted the link In Answer: I am sorry to throw a dampener on things, but the link takes me to the web page and tells me there is an incompatability problem with Internet Explorer 8 and gives me the option to upgrade to IE 9 BETA version. Absolutely no way would I do this, and I would urge caution to anyone who wants to try this.  It might work for you, but I would definitely not upgrade to a beta version for anyone. I won't even upgrade to any software package that ends in version number x.00. I apologise if I am casting aspersions and I certainly don't mean to imply anything malicious is intended, but I truly think that anyone who wants to take advantage of upgrading to a "beta" system from Microsoft needs to know exactly what the risks are and should do so from the official Microsoft website and not some blog.  They should also be technically aware and competent enough to put their system back together if it all goes pear shaped. Sorry, off soap box, just don't want anyone's system  to be compromised.
