Hello List Marion said: For a long time I have been trying to find the marriage of Arthur MEPPEN-WALTER to Agnes WARBURTON. I know they were married in Mangalore on the 24th June 1872 and have found the reference Z/N/2/M4 at the IOL, but I have never managed to locate the microfilm. Can someone advise me where I am going wrong. Until I find these marriage details which I am hoping will reveal Agnes' parents I cannot go any further back with the Warburtons. Z/N/2 are the index volumes for the Madras ecclesiastical records,, so as a guess M4 is the fourth index volume for the Marriages. The FIBIS Fibiwiki article "LDS Microfilms for Madras Presidency Church Records" http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php?title=LDS_Microfilms_for_Madras_Presidency_C hurch_Records or http://tinyurl.com/2c4gt8u gives the following information for the fourth volume of marriage indexes Index to marriages 1871-1898 Film 0498588 For 1872 the volume 53 records is film 0521860 However it would be expected that all these names from the microfilms have been added to the LDS beta Family Search site, so unless there has been an omission, it appears unlikely this marriage will be found on the microfilms mentioned. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mary Anne" Would anyone be able to give me the meaning of the word *amalnamah*- it is in relation to land ownership. ======================= Literally the word would mean ''a Deed containing a (court's) Order for Implementation (of something)''. Amal (Implementation) + namah (deed or document). In relation to land ownership, it means ''order of possession'', as explained in this 1832 book Calcutta Magazine and monthly register = http://tinyurl.com/397p29e or http://books.google.com/books?id=QxwYAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA170&lpg=PA170&dq=amalnamah&source=bl&ots=Mbh_bh5cTz&sig=C4z7UnIjor77sc5UDDGG63FpqxM&hl=en&ei=dovNTNmsOIiXcdva8NUO&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=6&ved=0CCQQ6AEwBQ#v=onepage&q=amalnamah&f=false --- Harshawardhan_Bosham Nimkhedkar

Dear Friends, While surfing net, I came across your wonderful web site, and its email to rootsweb which delivers to all, who possibly are doing research. My research is on my surname, Talwar and my Grandfather namely Late Ishwar Dass Talwar worked as a Station Master at Lahore, now in Pakistan. Can any one help?, for his wife and his siblings details etc, I was told that he married thrice and later years owned his own business in Lahore. My parents were born from his 3rd marriage and hence our Talwar family is going late down the line of descendants by 25 to 30YRs. I would certainly appreciate any body help, and all mails will be duly acknowledged -- A Talwar Auckland, NZ Ph: +64 21 180 3962(Mb) Skype: talwar1948
Mary, 'Amal' is possession or ownership. 'Namah', I believe, is a Persian word meaning 'record'. 'Amalnamah' would be 'record of ownership or title'. Arvind Kolhatkar, Toronto, October 31, 2010.
