    2. Jill Glover
    3. Hi Martin, These could be the names you are looking for...from Wikipedia... A few years ago there was a book online with old and new(ish) names, I can't seem to find it now, and it was several computer crashes ago. Machilipatnam , known as Masulipatnam under British rule and as Bandar in folklore is a city and a special grade municipality and the District Administrative Head-Quarters of the Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh, India. It is located 62 kilometres (39 mi) east of Vijayawada. snip....In the early nineteenth century, Jabalpur was gradually annexed in British India as Jubbulpore and incorporated as a major cantonment town. Kannur also known as Cannanore, is a city in Kannur district in the Indian state of Kerala. Cheers, Jill

Author: maureenr5 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.asia.india.general/2786.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Martin Reading this in conjunction with another recent post you made, http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.asia.india.general/2785/mb.ashx I feel your best chance of finding further information is through the Army service records. I looked in the usual places for a death of Elizabeth, but could not find an entry, either on the LDS website Family Search or on the index records for the Overseas Army deaths. Perhaps this is because she died while travelling. The sources are set out in the FIBIS Fibiwiki Beginners Guide http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php?title=Beginners'_Guide You could try the Passengers leaving England on Find My Past, however it is likely the family was on a troop ship which would not show up in these records Also, many of the names of towns you mention are unfamiliar to me, and I wonder how accurate they are eg Maspatamia (Masulipatam?) Junglapaul (Jubbulpore?), Canmor (Cannanore?). The only problem is these three alternative names do not seem to be in the same region. Frizzbad (mentioned in the other post) is possibly Firozpur, the English names being Ferozepur /Ferozepore. Perhaps you will find the relevant names mentioned in the Army service record. Author: Brain_Martin Surnames: Collis Classification: death Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.asia.india.general/2786/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, I am trying to find out when my Great Aunty Elizabeth Collis died. She was born in Ireland in November 1920 and was only very young when she and her mum and siblings left Ireland for India sometime before November 1922, as her father was posted to India after WW1. I heard from her sister (my grandmother) that she had died while on the boat to India. I then heard from a niece of hers who has worked on the family tree years ago that from speaking to a brother and another sister of Elizabeth's, she had caught Meningitis when the ship docked and sadly died of Meningitis (don't know the date she died) on the train from Bombay to Junglapaul after having arrived in Bombay from Ireland. When they arrived, they went to Maspatamia and she is buried at Canmor. She was buried the day after her death. I have been coming to the same brick wall each time I try to find a death/burial record of hers as well as a passenger arrival record of her arrival in Bombay. If you can help me in anyway in finding a death/burial record of her or even a passenger arrival record of her and the family then it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Martin Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: Brain_Martin Surnames: Collis Classification: military Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.asia.india.general/2785/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, I am trying to finding a Indian military service record of my Great Grandfather George Collis who was posted to India after having fought for Britain in WW1. I know he was in India by November 1920 (from a birth certificate of one of hsi daughters) and was later given the choice of moving to Canada or Australia, so he chose Australia and he and his family arrived in Australia in April 1927, having departed from Calcutta. He was a Sergeant while in India and I have his regimental number and regiment name (Command 43rd Field Battery of the Royal Field Artillery). I know from my family that we think he was stationed at Maspatamia when his wife and children arrived from Ireland sometime before Nov 1922 at Bombay. When they arrived, they went to Maspatamia. While my great grandfather was at Maspatamia, his family stayed in Junglapaul. He was also in Frizzbad, Lucknow to Calcutta (Fort William). Any help you can give me in finding such a record of his service in India will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Martin Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Elizabeth- Family Search have a William Jones who died in Allahabad, Bengal on 31 July 1882. Batch No B39241-6 / India-EASy / GS film no 510868. You could try ordering up the film to view an your nearest LDS Family History Centre. Alternatively, Find My Past are transposing and digitalising all the British Library India Office Ecclesiastical BMD records, and are talking about a summer 2013 launch on line - it might be less hassle to wait for that. 3. Hi - trying to find out about an Alfred George ROBERTS (b.1841) who disappears from UK census and other records after his marriage in 1871, to Emily Mary HUGHES (b.1836), at Plymouth. He was discharged from the RN in 1864, where he was a Clerk. I think the couple may have emigrated to India as I found a ref to the bankruptcy of an unemployed Clerk in the GIP Railway in 1886 in the London Gazette http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/25657/pages/6457 I think this may be him. Any clues as to where I might go to find out more? I don't think there are any passenger lists for the period 1871-1890. Rob
