    1. [INDIA] LDS Records
    2. Hello Sue I sent for copies of a birth record nearly 2 months ago and have heard nothing. I think I included all the references they required but now I'm wondering if I missed something. I will try again to see what happens - it does not cost anything, so worth trying. Patricia

    3. Hi Sue I sent off my requests when the LDS began this great aid for us family historians and got mine back in about 4 weeks, however as one of the listers mentioned they have probably been inundated with requests now and I'm sure it would take longer to process all these requests. Joan Hi There Has anyone sent for records from LDS. I have been waiting for 5 weeks now - is this the norm. Thanks Sue

    1. [INDIA] New version FamilySearch website.
    2. Maureen Evers
    3. Hello List FamilySearch have released a new version of their website. The URL is still the same https://familysearch.org >From the records point of view, you now have to click on Search to get to the records. The link for the Asia and Middle East Records, which includes India is https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1&region=ASIA_MIDDLE_EA ST or http://tinyurl.com/d3l47dz If you have the India baptisms, marriages and burials separately bookmarked, the links for the new site have probably changed. Some of the tabs which were previously at the top of the Home page are now at the bottom of the page. These include Blogs and Feedback, the latter is the section to use if you want to contact LDS about a problem. The latest Blog has more about the recent website changes which as far as I can tell are about aspects other than records. At the bottom of the Home Page is a facility to change the language used in the website. Cheers Maureen

    1. [INDIA] Roman Catholic Baptisms, Madras?
    2. Dian Elvin
    3. Major (HEICS) Joseph Alexander Condell, my 3X Gt Grandfather, had two children in India with an Indian lady. No marriage has been found. No births have been found, but the family were devout Roman Catholics ( JAC was born in Madeira and therefore a Portuguese speaker). Somewhere there may be baptisms in Consular records or HEICS correspondence? He was an interpreter. Mary Agnes Alexander Condell was born in 1826, in Bangalore. Her brother, Charles Alexander Condell was born around 1830 (as an adult he joined the British Navy under the name Charles Alexander, having dropped his surname Condell). Both children were taken to England by their father and left with his widowed sister, Mrs Mary Bucknell (née Condell), around 1836, or earlier, after which he did not seem to have anything to do with them. He then married a young Scottish woman, on his retirement from the HEICS, and lived in Aberdeen. His two sons by this wife moved to the USA, but it is the Indian mother of his first two children, I would like to find. The complete service record for Joseph Alexander Condell, all the way from his cadet papers in 1805, to 1836, when he returned to Scotland (Edinburgh) is very clear and has been found in the British Library. Nothing at all has been found about any "wife" (bibi?) or family in India. Any help or hints would be gratefully received. No records have been found of late baptisms in Cheadle or Cresswell, where they lived as children, with their Roman Catholic teacher aunt. Dian Elvin

    3. >From the feedback I have received so far it looks as though the last message that was distributed to India subscribers was on March 26 with the subject "Dutch Records". If anyone has received a posting since then that was NOT a digest please let me know. Once more I have been assured that Rootswebs engineers are working on the problem Lets hope that they are able to identify and repair the cause quickly. You will need to look at the Beginners Guide and follow the various links to read how to do this. Cheers Maureen Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
