    3. Hello List Shirley I'm not quite sure what you are asking. Delhi was part of Bengal. However, if you are referring to the Bengal Wills at the British Library, it is my understanding that these records only contain wills proved at the High Court at Calcutta. So if you believe that your ancestor's will was proved at Delhi, his will would not be in these records. But you may feel it is worth while checking. 3. Hi Ed   Where would we be without the LDS site!   We all appreciate the dedication and long hours volunteers put in.  However may I gently point out that in most instances there are no page/folio numbers or else it would have been provided.  The item below is an exact presentation of the LDS record.    Unfortunately this will continue to be an ongoing issue for these good people.   Regards Indi     Name                             Victoria Niderham Burial date                     29 May 1894 Burial place                    Calcutta, Bengal, India Death date                     29 May 1894 Age                                   52 Birth date                       1 842 Marital status                Widowed Spouse's name              Joseph Niderham Indexing batch no.        B39358-5 Film                                 512350     Ed Keen said > Hello List, ...They said many people are not putting all of the information in their requests that is available on the FamilySearch.org indexes. They said the biggest items missing are volume and/or?page numbers.  When there is no page numbers they then need to go through the film until they find the record and then go to a scanner.  This can be very time consuming for the volunteers unless the record happens to be near the beginning of the film. I hope this gives everyone a better perspective on what is going on behind the scenes and how dedicated all of these LDS?volunteers are in fulfilling your requests...

    3. Hello List,   I just returned from a two week research trip with a genealogy group to the LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah.  On my first day, I was using a scanner and I was seated next to two ladies who had small baskets with film boxes in them and lists of what was to be scanned.  I asked them if they were fulfilling email requests.  They answered that they were and the lady to my immediate right said her request was from London and the other lady said she was fulfilling requests from Australia.  They said that they were spending their entire day filling orders and that they and the other LDS members were still about a month behind in completing orders.  That seems to be consistent with what I have heard in the past on this list.  What I would like for everyone to know is how many very dedicated people are working at the library every day fulfilling orders.  At 5 o'clock on most nights many of the young elders move into the scanner areas and fill orders until the library closes at 9:00 PM.  The number of patrons usually drops off at about 5:00 PM so more scanners are available.  The International floor has about eight scanners and the US and Canada films floor has fifteen.  All day long some of the young elders and some of the older members who are performing a two year mission at the library are seen fulfilling orders.  I do have a request from those two ladies I met my first day and who I saw every day at scanners on different floors.  They said many people are not putting all of the information in their requests that is available on the FamilySearch.org indexes.  They said the biggest items missing are volume and/or page numbers.  When there is no page numbers they then need to go through the film until they find the record and then go to a scanner.  This can be very time consuming for the volunteers unless the record happens to be near the beginning of the film.  I hope this gives everyone a better perspective on what is going on behind the scenes and how dedicated all of these LDS volunteers are in fulfilling your requests.   I spent most of my time in British records in the second basement floor (B2) looking for my Edward Lee family from County Carlow.  Edward went to India with the 16th Lancers in 1822, had three children with his wife Catherine (John 1823, Charles 1825 and Jane 1827) and was invalided back to the UK in 1829. Does anyone on the list have my Lee's in their tree?   Ed Keelin San Jose, California

    3. Hello List Shirley, the FIBIS Fibiwiki has a page "Wills, Administrations, Probate and Inventories" http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php?title=Wills,_Administrations,_Probate_and_In ventories or http://tinyurl.com/3u9mpwx There are copies of wills available at the British Library proved at the High Courts of Calcutta, Madras and Bombay. These records are also available on LDS microfilm, with a microfilm of the index for each Presidency. However I am doubtful whether someone who lived in the Central Provinces would have a will proved at these High Courts, so I suspect you would not be able to find a will for him. Other wills, proved at District Courts in India, if they exist at all now, would be in India. Would anyone know what sort of headgear would have been worn by anon-commissioned officer in the Madras Artillery? --ooOoo-- I wonder if David would be kind enough separately to e-mail me a copy of the photo he has. Firstly, because my own ancestor was a Conductor in the Madras Ordnance Dept. I have never seen a picture of the uniform that he wore and would be delighted if this turns out to be an example. Secondly, if someone can show that it is, indeed, the uniform of a Conductor in the Madras Ordnance Dept., we would be delighted to post it on our FibiWiki for all to see. 3. Hello List David, if you think your photograph is after 1837 (ie Victorian era) you could ask your question on the Victorian Wars Forum. You can post a photograph directly on the VWF. However the file size is restricted, so you would get a larger image available by posting, (or asking for the image to be posted) on the FIBIS Fibiwiki, then referring to the URL in your Victorian Wars Forum post. The procedure is set out in the FIBIS Fibiwiki page Mailing lists, section Military. http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php?title=Mailing_lists#Military Cheers Maureen (Sydney) Date: Mon, 10 Jun 2013 11:30:03 +1000 From: David Cornelius <[email protected]> Subject: [INDIA] Cornelius/ Skinner - Two questions I wonder if anyone on the List might be able to help me with twoproblems that seem to have blocked me?....
