    1. [INDIA] Flashman
    2. Noel Clark
    3. Ali, 1895 Thacker's Indian Directory page 1493 lists T. C. Flashman & Co. as wine and general merchants, Canning Road, Rawalpindi, and T. C. Flashman as managing proprietor of same. Also lists R. Johnstone as Assistant in the firm of T. C. Flashman & Co. A Thomas Charles Flashman, of the Hotel Norman, 10/11 Leinster Gardens, Lancaster Gate, Middlesex, died 12 February 1929 at 12 Leinster Gardens. Probate of his will was granted on 31 May 1929 to Blanche Maud Flashman widow, Herbert Charles Flashman hotel proprietor, and Norah Margaret Browne, widow. Effects totalled 3652 pounds 13 shillings and 4 pence. This Thomas Charles Flashman and Blanche Maud Flashman are in the London Electoral Registers for 1927 and 1928 at 55 High Road, Chiswick, London. In 1929 there are three Flashmans shown for 10/11 Leinster Gardens - Blanche Maud, Herbert Charles, and Florence Evelyn. Florence Evelyn G. Boulter married Herbert Charles W Flashman in 1925. His age at death suggests a birth c. 1858. There are a couple of outwards passenger lists from the UK to India for this couple. Also a number for Mrs Flashman but there was also a Blanche Marion Flashman so you might have a bit of sorting out to do. Please contact me off list if you would like copies. The London Gazette of 7th March 1919, page 3159, shows the admission of Thomas Charles Flashman to the Indian Army Reserve of Officers with the temporary rank of Captain, effective 23rd August 1918. He was awarded the Kaiser-i-Hind Medal, Class II, on 22 June 1914. Noel

    1. [INDIA] Thomas Charles Flashman Rawalpindi
    2. Ali Khan
    3. Am doing research on the above mentioned. He was owner of Flashman's Hotel in Rawalpindi. Flashman worked for a General Merchant in Ambala before moving to Pindi where he started a general merchant store on Canning Road. He subsequently started the hotel on the Mall around 1894. It seems he sold the hotel around 1919 and also received a temporary commission as Captain in the Indian Army. He may have died in 1929. Any further info or corroboration of the above, would be appreciated. Thanks. Ali

But bear in mind I am also related to the Palmer side of the family as my late grandmother Ada Louisa Georgiana Palmer was married to Daniel Speechly whom had 4 children Irene Elizabeth Freda, Lylis, and twin son's Albert and Leslie whom I am named after. But in those days they added an extra E in Speechley as you can see which should have read Speechly. I think Henry Palmer is related to my late grandmother Ada. 1. [INDIA] Book of church register inscriptions- Church of Our Lady of Dolours, Boitakhana, Calcutta

    3. Hello List In my recent email to the India list about recently released FIBIS records in the Percy-Smith and Bullock collection http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/INDIA/2013-07/1373373360 I noted that some of the records were from the Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of Dolours, Boitakhana, Calcutta which were transcribed by "Rev H. Hosten Calcutta 1915" I have now found out there was a book published in 1915 called "The Registers & Inscriptions of the Church of Our Lady of Dolours, Baithakhana (1810-1914)" by Fr H Hosten. However the only place I have located a copy of the book is a library in Calcutta called the Goethals Indian Library. According to a previous India List post this church was located quite close to the Sealdah Station, and near the Railway Barracks where most of the Anglo Indian who were employed by the Railway lived. This information has now been added to the FIBIS Fibiwiki page Calcutta, section Churches and missions. http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php?title=Calcutta#Churches_and_missions Cheers Maureen (Sydney)

    1. [INDIA] 10,000 new FIBIS records just released.
    2. Maureen Evers
    3. Hello List A recent FIBIS News release http://www.new.fibis.org/archives/986 is about the " <http://www.new.fibis.org/archives/986> Percy-Smith and Bullock collection" which has been uploaded to FIBIS database which consists of 10,000 sundry British-Indian baptisms, marriage and burials. These have all been transcribed by Robert Charnock, a mammoth task. The FIBIS database link is http://search.fibis.org/frontis/bin/aps_browse_sources.php?mode=browse_class es <http://search.fibis.org/frontis/bin/aps_browse_sources.php?mode=browse_clas ses&source_class=294> &source_class=294 or http://tinyurl.com/kpubgkm I think most of the information was personally obtained by Percy-Smith and Bullock, , but I noticed a couple of batches of records which were transcribed by other people. In particular I noticed there were some records from the Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of Dolours, Boitakhana, Calcutta dating back to the 1810s which were transcribed by "Rev H. Hosten Calcutta 1915" and some records for the Bushire,(Iran) Armenian Church transcribed by "C H A Bagshawe Bushire Sept 1926" I have looked at some of the records, just a sample, and they seem to contain a lot of information that you are unlikely to find elsewhere, perhaps because they died in out of the way places. A couple of examples are: *To the Memory of Mary-Ann, wife of Color Serjeant J.F. Crisp 1st Battn 8th Kings Regt., who died here 6 January 1870, while on the march from Poona to Nasirabad Dak bungalow at Nimbahera District Source: Typed page Copy of the demi-official letter #1146 of 1944 dated 15th July 1944 from the Vice President State Council, Tonk, to the Political Agent at Jaipur. http://search.fibis.org/frontis/bin/aps_detail.php?id=1398694 or http://tinyurl.com/lzeyl6v *Miss Mary Flyde, tutoress to the present Rajadhiraj Sahib, died at Shahpura 15 December 1885. Information from The Dewan of Shahpura. Source: Letter from Jaipur Agency to Percy-Smith http://search.fibis.org/frontis/bin/aps_detail.php?id=1398696 or http://tinyurl.com/lfauzjv This is a great collection of records. Perhaps you may find that elusive record you have been looking for! Cheers Maureen (Sydney)
