Hi Stuart Could I ask where your LYNCH family originated from before going to India. I am following Lynch name in Madras but my John Lynch was born in Co Clare and joined the HEIC and went to Madras in 1848 so a generation earlier probably than the Lynch family you are researching. My John was born 1827 to Patrick Lynch but I believe Patrick's father to be Michael, however all these names are so prominent in Ireland, so it's like looking for a needle in a haystack. My John Lynch left India in 1853 and emigrated to NSW, Australia. Cheers Joan in NSW. Does anyone have any information on the *Lynch* family in Bangalore around 1850? My great-uncle Michale Lynch was born there in September 1852, but I can find no reference to his brother, John Lynch - my g-grandfather whom I think was born there too - around 1845-50. Best regards, *Stuart NELSON*

They initially lived in Prospect House, Grant Road, Bombay. In 1872, Nicholas was an accountant in the Bank of Bombay. In 1882, Nicholas was a clerk and this family was still living on Grant Road, Bombay. Nicholas, aged 58, died on November 24th., 1899. Rose Mary de Ga died in Dadar, Bombay, on May 15th., 1906, aged 49 years. They were buried with m.i., in Sewri Cemetery, Bombay. They had issue, including: a. Anthony George de GA, born on August 27th., 1882. He legally changed his surname from de Ga to Anthony George STEVENS. Anthony was the Private Secretary to the Governor of Bombay. Francis worked for the Government of India, in Bombay; when he retired he was Deputy Accountant there. On January 23rd., 1911, in St. Andrews Church, Bandra West, Bombay, Francis married Charlotte Elizabeth BOCARRO. Charlotte had been born on November 18th., 1891, a daughter of Joseph Bocarro and Rose Mary Esperance, his wife. Francis and Charlotte lived in Bandra West, on Hill Road, opposite St. Peters Church. Francis died of a heart attack, on May 25th., 1957; Charlotte died on August 10th., 1979; they were both buried, with m.i., in the de Ga grave, in the front porch of St. Peters church, Bandra West, Bombay. Stepping forward from my July posting, to this list, on my de GA family of Bombay, India, here is a ROZARIO and de GA family group of descendants, who lived in Karachi, prabably from the 1870s. She married Frank ROZARIO / Rosario, probably in the 1870s, and they lived in Karachi. They had issue: a. Angela ROZARIO, probably born in Karachi. Probably no issue. b. Emily M. ROZARIO, probably born in Karachi, c. Letitia ROZARIO, probably born in Karachi. Probably no issue. d. Frank ROZARIO, probably born in Karachi, who married B. SYLVESTER. They had issue: 1. Hello List Two further volumes of Allen's Indian Mail, for the year 1873, (2 half yearly volumes) have been digitised and are available to read online. They are on the website of the Bavarian State Library. I think at some point, perhaps next year they will be generally available on the Google Books website, but the 2nd half yearly 1873 volume I found on Google Books was only available to me in a "snippet" version, which may be available to some viewers (eg North America) in a full version. Those on the BSL site do not seem to be searchable unless you download them as a pdf. I also found , on the Bavarian State Library website the 1854 edition of "Indian News and Chronicle of Eastern Affairs" which is a publication very similar to Allen's Indian Mail, which contains BMD notices, passenger notices etc. I thought this edition would also be on Google Books, as all the digitised books from the BSL seem to be available on Google Books, but I could not find it. I don't know if this is related to my rather old computer. If anyone can locate it on Google Books could they kindly advise the URL Also if anyone can locate the 1st half yearly 1873 volume of Allen's Indian Mail on Google Books, could they kindly advise the URL. I have added all the new links to the existing links on the FIBIS Fibiwiki page "Newspapers and journals online" http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php?title=Newspapers_and_journals_online or http://tinyurl.com/27xax6s Note: FIBIS volunteers are currently transcribing BMD notices from Allen's Indian Mail, and have currently completed to 1870, which have been added to the FIBIS database. Cheers Maureen (Sydney)
Dear Listers and members of FIBIS - my granddaughter Natasha Green - B.A. (Hons) Keble College, Oxford - has asked me to pass on her sincere thanks to all the kind people who helped with her research when she was doing her Geography dissertation on the " Anglo-Indian Diaspora imagined through genealogical practices" for her finals in 2013. Word Content 12,000 - she obtained a First for it - and was very excited with her result !! Very many thanks again from Natasha and from proud Granny too - Thelma Cramb (nee Ferguson).
Both of the posts seem to be related to soldiers. there was a periodical, called Colburn's United Service Magazine. The issues often had "Domestic Occurrences" listed (that is births, deaths etc) Apparently, the reporting method was informal so I am not promising every incident was listed. Also, they might be 3 or months late, due to travel. (fax was not in widespread use in the 1800's) the magazine can be found in HathiTrust online. there are quite a few years available. Ernest insisted that his remaining daughters and his wife travel to England as it would no longer be safe for them in India. His other children (there were many!) had all already either gone to war or moved back towards England or died. In 1949 my ggrandma (Evelyn), grandma (Colleen), and her younger sister (Yvette) traveled from Bombay to Liverpool on the Jal Jawahara and went to stay with another of my grandma's sisters. My ggrandad was then taken ill. He was still in India and said he wouldn't have the operation he needed without seeing my ggrandma (Evelyn) again. She travelled back to India and my grandma claims the stress of it all caused Evelyn to have a stroke and it sounds as though she never fully recovered. Evelyn was due to be travelling back to England to meet my grandmas first son when she died. My ggrandad died just 6 months after and my grandma always says i! t was from a broken heart! With a bit of ‘fudging’, I ended up with new information about my grandfather. It has been helpful. Phyllis
Hello List Rosemary, thanks for advising your post (copied below). What a pity the name was incorrect!. Was this a transcription or a digital copy of the original record? If it was a transcription, perhaps you may be able to request a scan of the actual record. It is interesting you say that most babies were just registered with the parents' names and not the name of the child, as I had not realised this was the common practice. Cheers Maureen Date: Fri, 16 Aug 2013 07:24:50 +0200 From: "Rosemary Taylor" <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [INDIA] INDIA Digest, Vol 8, Issue 199 Hi Maureen, I tried to track my husband's Birth reg. and was delighted to find it registered! However, when I went into it and checked, his parents names are down as CEK JAYLOR and JM JAYLOR instead of TAYLOR. All other information on the entry is correct, so I know it was the right one! You are able to print it off, which indeed I did, however, it is worthless to us. It would have been priceless, as he has always been given to understand that the registers has been destroyed in a fire, and he has had to use his Baptism certificate as proof of age and parentage. It is free to access and download, so in theory one should be able to enter any name and date of birth and check. I initially just put in the date of birth, as most babies (indeed mine were too) just registered with the parents names and not the name of the child. Yes, have the whole history of James and family and have been desperately trying to tie up Martha. She was born in Hampshire, England and both of her sons went into the Army at age 14yrs as drummer boys. When they came back to UK with father they lived with grandparents so I assumed that Martha died in India and also the daughter Harriet, born 1866 as no mention of her in any of the census. I do have a photo of Martha and baby Harriet and Martha looks quite haggard and ill. Their life in India was pretty rough! I shall just have to keep trawling the records.
