Whilst, Sandra's 1908 death is outside the range, there might be others who are looking for confirming records. I find the events are listed about 6 months after they took place. There is also an Indian News & Chronicle of Eastern Affairs for the period 1848 thru 58. While I have not gone thru it in detail, it seems to also have genealogical information. Ed of Falcon

    1. [INDIA] Quiteria (Kate) BOCARRO married Dominic VIEGAS in Bombay, in 1864
    2. Peter Ferreira
    3. Here is another East Indian family group for you, the family of Dominic VIEGAS and my cousin, Kate BOCARRO. They probably lived in Poona, India. Quiteria (Kate / Kitty) BOCARRO was born about 1844, probably in Bombay. On May 2nd., 1864, at Bombay, Kate married Dominic VIEGAS. They were the god-parents at the baptism of Kate's youngest brother, Edward Bocarro, in Our Lady of Health Church, Cavel, Bombay, on October 23rd., 1864. A fibis entry shows that D. Viegas may have been employed by Govt. Telegraphs. They probably lived in Poona, where they had issue: a. Claude VIEGAS, b. Cajetan (Jitley) VIEGAS, married a FERNANDES. c. Amelia (Amy) VIEGAS, born about 1877. On February 2nd., 1914, at St. Xaviers Church, Poona, India, Amelia 37, married Jenkin? THOMAS 28, widower, in the presence of Edward Bocarro and C. H. Moore. . d. Eulalia (Lulu) Sophie VIEGAS, born on January 16th., 1881. On February 3rd., 1914, at St. Xaviers Church, Poona, India, Eulalia 35 <sic> married Charles Henry MOORE 45, in the presence of Joseph Bocarro. Charles worked in the Traffic Dept. of the G. I. P. Railway; he was a son of Thomas Cornelius Moore and Anne. Eulalia died in Bombay, India, and was buried in Sewri Cemetery, Bombay, on October 28th., 1929. Charles died on July 22nd., 1934, in Jacob Circle, Bombay, India, and was buried in Sewri Cemetery, in the same grave as Eulalia. Charles and Eulalia had one son, Reginald Aloysius Sutherland Moore. e. Charles VIEGAS f. Sally VIEGAS. I would be delighted to correspond, and to share BOCARRO family history notes, with any descendant or researcher of this family, all cousins of mine. Best wishes. Peter Ferreira Toronto, Canada.

    1. [INDIA] India to Uganda (2)
    2. Noel Clark
    3. Maureen, Many thanks indeed for your response to my question on "India to Uganda." Maureen pointed me to the FIBIwiki page http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php?title=East_Africa on East Africa, which has a link to the East African Cemeteries and Memorials page http://www.eamemorials.co.uk/index.html. There I was able to find one memorial of importance to me - that of Hope Moresby Talbot, buried at St. Paul's Cathedral, Namirembe, Kampala. Maureen also pointed me to the RG-36 colonial BMD records on http://www.bmdregisters.co.uk/ a site run by http://www.thegenealogist.co.uk/ but, despite my best efforts, seemingly entirely separate. Lateral thinking then prompted me to look at www.familysearch.org, which does have a number of African records (use the "Browse by Location" facility), including death registers (1890-1977) and an index (1892-1977) and death notices (1904-1976) for Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). These have not been indexed but may be browsed. Here I was able to find another member of the family - George Blacquiere Talbot (Hope's brother). I was also surprised to see here the complete "old" IGI, which I had thought to have been lost altogether. Thank you once again Maureen.

    3. Hi All I am new to the list, but can fill out the details of the family I am researching :- I have a John EDWARDS, born 1848 in Surrey, England who was a Civil Servant in India (I know his UK ancestry) He married an Edith PYCROFT in Gampla, Ceylon in 1878 (I also have her ancestry - not the Sir PYCROFT family) They had a number of children in India and one in England. John died in Khagpur in 1904. Amongst the children was an Arthur EDWARDS born in Nagpur in 1891. This John moved to UK and joined up for WW1 and was killed in action on 1916 My interest is that he used my family's address as a home address in Liverpool when he joined up. He does not seem to have any relationship with the family I know of I would be pleased to make any contact with anyone who knows of this family and to receive any information about members before of after the above John EDWARDS Thanks in advance [email protected] Llewellyn-EDWARDS S Yorks, UK

    1. [INDIA] Agnes CARROLL (nee Simmons)
    2. Sandra Ackoy
    3. I have found the marriage record of my great grandmother Agnes SIMMONS (daughter of John SIMMONS) to Joseph Samuel CARROLL in Trichinopoly, Madras, India in 1890. According to the marriage record she was born in 1872. Anecdotal history is that she died quite young (aged late 20's or early 30's) in Madras, India. I have found a death record for an Agnes CARROLL buried in Pakala Madras, India in 1908 but I can't be sure this is my ancestor. I have been unable to find a birth record for Agnes in India, nor can I positively identify any records found on the familysearch site for her father John SIMMONS. I would be interested to hear from anyone researching the Simmons/Carroll family who resided in or near Trichinopoly, Madras, India. Thanks. Sandra

I have. I have corresponded with the site owner in the past. I believe that "Elizabeth" was anglo Indian, she is listed as the mother of Caroline Simmonds, daughter of Sgt. William Simmons and her name is listed as Elizabeth Wheatley. I believe Elizabeth was married before her liaison with William to a man named John Page, hence her name on her death certificate as Elizabeth Page. Why she chose to have her maiden name on Caroline's birth record I do not know. I have found a record on familysearch with a Conard Whitley as Elizabeth's father more research to be done to verify this though. But the dates really add up. I also have found some records that may indicate that William Simmons may have had a wife prior to Elizabeth but once again I cannot verify it and I cannot access the records in England because I live in Canada. 2. Maureen Evers
    3. Noel, the FIBIS Fibiwiki has a small page "East Africa" http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php?title=East_Africa There are apparently some GRO RG36 records which are available on BMD Registers http://www.bmdregisters.co.uk This site seems to be owned by http://www.thegenealogist.co.uk/ Cheers Maureen From: "Noel Clark" < [email protected]> Subject: [INDIA] India to Uganda Date: Mon, 9 Sep 2013 16:32:57 +1000 A branch of one of one of my families of interest - the Talbots - left India about 1914/15 and was settled in Uganda by 1916, first in Kekonde and then Mityana, where Frederic(k) George Talbot introduced the growing of tea and became known as the "Father of the Ugandan Tea Industry." Other than very limited references I have been unable to make any substantial further progress on this family. So far I have found no BMD information for Uganda, and the Rootsweb Uganda list seems moribund with just one or two posts per year. Does anyone else have anyone who moved to East Africa in general and Uganda in particular? If so I would be grateful if you would contact me off-list. Thank you.
