    1. [INDIA] St. Pauls - Darjeeling
    2. Elizabeth Warner
    3.      Does anyone know how I can obtain formation on my father's, George Graham Scott, attendance at St. Paul's in Darjeeling?  He was there from probably about 10 years of age (1928) until at least 1933.  I am basing his age on photos that I have of him at about 10 years with a St. Paul's building in the background.       SKS found his baptismal several years ago at the BL. The baptism took place in 1933 by St. Paul's Rector R. L. Pelly.  Don't know why his baptism did not happen until he was 15 years of age but think it had to do with the loss of his mother.  I do know that he left for England probably about 1935/6 to complete his education.  Unsure if he continued on with his education or went directly into employment just before the outbreak of the war.       There is a St. Paul's website but I never had a reply to my inquiry.  Another site appears to be only for alumni. Any thoughts greatly appreciated Elizabeth Scott Warner

Author: maureenr5 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.asia.india.general/2834.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I would try tracing John Malone the father in the IOR/L/MIL/10/122-129 records "Registers of Bengal Army European Soldiers 1788-1860" which are available at the British Library or alternatively on LDS microfilm which you can arrange to view at a LDS Family History Certre. Details in the FIBIS Fibiwiki page Bengal Army http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php?title=Bengal_Army This would probably have full details including when he died. If not, you could try the muster records, tracing him by the regiment on the baptismal certificate. You will probably be able to see if he is transferred to the Calcutta Police (possibly he would then be on the "Town Major's List (Unattached List) which you could follow through) and there may even be an indication of his death. Author: JayMenzies Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.asia.india.general/2834.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Many thanks for all that info, Maureen - very much appreciated! I've looked at the Lawrence website, but think that all their main/more detailed records are from a slightly later period, unfortunately. I had been hoping for some mention of what had happened to her parents, and of the reason for her being admitted to the LMA. Thanks to Penni, I now know that Emma's mother remarried (to a Sergeant William Phillips) in Dum Dum, Bengal, on 24 March 1846. I found a possible death for John Malone in Dum Dum, on 6 April 1844 - but this would have been 7 months before Emma's birth and, as far as I can see from transcripts, there is no mention on Emma's baptism of her having been a posthumous child. Also, this death entry gives John Malone as 'Town Sergeant, Calcutta Police', rather than as a sergeant in the European Regiment - the First Bengal Fusiliers, I think? I get very confused over the constant changes in regiments' names and organisations! There are a couple of other John Malone deaths, none look obviously correct. Thanks again for your help, Janice Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: maureenr5 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.asia.india.general/2834.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: There is a baptismal record on FamilySearch https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FG3S-8VM You can request a photocopy of the full record from Family Search for free, see http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php?title=Family_Search_Centres. This would give you the regiment the father was in, which may enable you to trace him further in muster rolls. There are some online documents on the school website. Details are in the FIBIS Fibiwiki link http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php?title=Lawrence_Military_Asylum#Lawrence_School.2C_Sanawar Whether there would be anything relevant for you, I don't know. However, even if there was anything, it would probably be only what you will get from the baptismal record. In 1855/1856 most of the children were transferred from the Lower Orphan School, Calcutta. Emma may , or may not, have been one of these. I suspect that the records may be non existent if she was one of those who were transferred. I am trying to confirm the parentage of Emma Caroline Malone, who was described as an orphan, and a ward of the LMA when, aged 17, she married William Bartrum in Kussowlie, 5th October 1861. 1. [INDIA] Digital Library of India question
    2. Maureen Evers
    3. Hello List This is a question for anyone who uses the Digital Library of India website. There are some great books to read online which are available on this site which you can’t get online anywhere else, such as some Thacker’s Directories etc etc. I have a new computer, an Apple iMac which uses Safari. Previously I had a PC which used Internet Explorer, version 8 I think. When I was reading a book on the Digital Library of India website, if I wanted to go to a particular page, I could click on the “page box” at the bottom of the page, type in the required number, then press enter. This would take me to that page number in the file (which may have been a bit different to the page in the actual book with that number, but at least was reasonably close). I find with Safari the only way to advance pages is by clicking, one click for each page. I have also downloaded Google Chrome and the same applies. I have been in email correspondence with someone who advises he can access the “page facility” with Internet Explorer 8, but not with Google Chrome. My question is: Can anyone access the “page facility” with any browsers other than Internet Explorer. I would also be interest to know if later versions of IE allow access to the “page facility” Cheers Maureen (Sydney)

I'm particularly interested in the grave of Colonel Arthur Langford Cooke who died in 1847. Actually I'm hoping that the book might have a photograph of his headstone and if so, whether it displays a family crest. Such a crest would be a great help in tracing the family origins. Also, if there's a mention of his younger brother Richard Cooke who died in about 1811. Any help would be hugely appreciated.
