    3. Hello List Nick, for general background you could read the FIBIS Fibiwiki page Jute Growing http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php/Jute_Growing You may find some mention of Peter Suttie in editions of Thacker's Indian Directory, There are some editions available online- for the time frame you interested in 1908, 1915, 1920, 1925. See the FIBIS Fibiwiki page Directories online, and select "Thacker's Indian Directory" http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php/Directories_online or http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php/Directories_online#Thacker.27s_Indian_Directory Cheers Maureen On 07/02/2015, at 9:04 AM, Nicholas Wilson via <india@rootsweb.com> wrote: > Hello, > > I am hoping to learn something of Peter Suttie from Fifeshire, who went > out to India before the turn of the century. 1. [INDIA] Fwd: William Henry Deacon
    2. Maureen Evers via
    3. Hello List Regarding my email dated 6 February 2015 below, Noel Clark has kindly advised me that I read the discharge date incorrectly, it was in fact 1934. However, for this date, my reply will still be correct as Deacon's records will still be with the Ministry of Defence Noel advised: "Deacon was discharged from the army on 2nd November 1934. I’m not sure about that date that appears to read “28” – it’s in the column marked “attestation or transfer, and might be “08” for attestation?? His army number on discharge was as you have it, 1045965. In the far right-hand column you can just make out his previous number, which was 49514. Using the latter on ancestry I found that he was awarded the 1914 Star with clasp and roses, and the British War and Victory medals. He went overseas with 44th Brigade of the Royal Field Artillery. The medal card for the Star confirms his new number 1045965. His address in Plymouth is also shown. He served in France. The new information, especially the previous number, might help dig up some more information". They are believed to have belonged to Frederick Wright who appears to have spent his life in India. We seek descendants with an interest in family history who would find the collection extremely interesting. Frederick married Frances Louisa Goodhall. Their children were Gerald Goodhall and Dorothy May Vernon. Grandchildren were Charles Henry Edmund and Francis Gerald Gribble Wright, and Rosabel Georgina Frances Walker (who married a Williams). 3. Good morning Cheryl and thank you very much for your assistance with finding my Carroll/Simmons roots. The first marriage you have noted below is in fact my great grandparents Joseph Samuel Carroll to Agnes Simmons, however, the second marriage you have noted of Joseph Carroll to Victoria Ammaye was Joseph Samuel's and Agnes' eldest son who was also named Joseph, my grandmother Briget's brother. The youngest of Joseph and Agnes' children was Philomena who married an Oswald Whitby and I believe my great grandfather Joseph Samuel was living with her when he passed away though I can't be 100% sure of this as I haven't been able to find a Burial record for him. >From anecdotal history, Joseph Samuel Carroll's second marriage was to a Maud Calvert - I recognized the names of two of their sons when searching the LDS site - Donald and Jerald because I remember my father speaking about them and I understand they were twins although I will need to check this out. I am still unsure whether Joseph Samuel Carrol's father's name was Joseph or Thomas because I have seen records that have used both names. I still have a lot of searching to do, but once again many, many thanks for your assistance. 3. This is rather difficult to work out - initial temptation is that Bom is for Bombay; but more likely it is abbreviation for rank of Bombardier (which is like a gunner and is a rank in the Artillery). However what the Rack or Rock Corps is I don't know - there is no other similar designation on the same page, and not something I have come across before. I wonder if it could have been one of the irregular cavalry corps. *Sylvia* Sylvia C M Murphy PO Box 2379 Carlingford Court NSW 2118 email: sylcec@gmail.com mob: 0430 011 855 On 26 January 2015 at 15:23, Susan Simmons via <india@rootsweb.com> wrote: > I have the Baptismal record of 2xgreat grandfather Francis HUGHES who was > baptised in Meerut in 1823.
