Harsh,I did send to this list but it has not made it. If we sign up to the IBR list on Groups.io can we send our interests as we have done to this list. As I was of the assumption that your list was separate. Hope this arrives before its too late. Herbie,You have to look up Groups.io create a sign in account (it's free to join) then look for the list(s) in question and subscribe. Very much the same as you would do with rootsweb. If you are signed up with any lists that have already moved over to Groups.io some will send a link inviting you to switch. Many thanks Ian, for the years that you put in to keep us all together asking questions, receiving answers, our disappointments and our triumphs; our brick walls that lead us back and back and back again. You deserve your retirement - but be prepared that it might become the busiest time of your life with not too many spare moments. I wish you many happy years of enjoyment. Shirley
First, I want to express appreciation to those who have said thanks to me in messages to the list and to my personal email address, however the pleasure that each of us has achieved from communication with the list and success in researching family history, has been achieved by yourselves, not me. I have merely played the role of bureaucratic list administrator. The real gratitude for this lists success belongs with Cathy Day who began the Rootsweb list list in 1997, when the India Roots list came to an end. This list is the third iteration of the original, having gone from India Roots to Rootsweb and this list, the Ancestry version. I have no doubt that it will emerge again, but it won't be by me. I am too tired and old to continue and I look forward to retirement. I encourage you to accept the invitation from Harshawardhan and join the reborn India-British-Raj mailing list. Many of you are already subscribed to his list but for those who may not know Harshawardhan, he is a gentleman of both Indian and British interests, high education and culture. I respect and have enjoyed his contribution to Indian studies. The India List has been a real pleasure for me. I regret its loss. Good Luck and success in your research. Ian List Admin

Hello Harshawardhan Nimkhedkar, Just wanted to say thank you for setting up IBR on the groups platform and for the invitation. I have sent in my request to subscribe. I didn't previously know of the IBR on rootsweb, but am sure it will be most enjoyable In its new form. Many thanks and happy retirement to Ian, Best wishes to all members, Angela Shergold nee Bower
Hello List Tony I echo your thanks and hope Ian will also refer back to the many comments of appreciation, including from me, in early January, when the closure of the Mailing Lists was announced. Ian without your ongoing work as India List Administrator, I strongly suspect that the India List would have ceased many years ago. Best wishes to everyone on the List Maureen Sydney > On 1 Mar 2020, at 9:46 am > > Ian I'd like to thank you for all the years you have been List > Administrator; I have really appreciated the India List. Ian I'd like to thank you for all the years you have been List Administrator; I have really appreciated the India List. I remember we met briefly in the British Library in the 90's(?) while we were both doing research and your guidance was most helpful. Through the List I have been able to piece together a lot about my family (McGOWAN). Best regards, Tony Thatcher Orleans, Canada
This is the easiest move I have ever had in my life. No packing of boxes, getting plane tickets, having to drive long distances, nothing. It is painless. Thank you Harsh for the work you have done to move us to group.io <http://group.io/>. Shirley Barbur
India British Raj List at Rootsweb Good evening. Time to announce the good news. We at IBR List (sister list of India List) have decided to move to another forum: groups.io. With less than 48 hours remaining for the end of Rootsweb's e-mailing function (beginning 2nd March), it's time we made this move. The new address is https://groups.io/g/india-british-raj Many members of India List are also members of India British Raj List. They have been invited to join the new set-up. If other members of India List also wish to join us, they are most welcome! Please visit the group web page to apply. Do mention that you are from IL. In addition to studying the Raj history, we also accept genealogical enquiries from members. Mind you, I have rented this new home just recently. It is yet to be populated and furbished and made comfortable. That will be done in the coming weeks. Take a good look around; the group site offers a lot of facilities -- such as chat, calendar, database, uploading of photos and files, etc. You can avail of these services. You can opt to receive all emails in your in-box, or a summary of the postings as one more daily digests, or post and read by going to the web page without getting any mails. The choice is yours. You can reply to this message either off-list to me or to the whole list -- at Rootsweb, until 2nd March. Thanks and regards. Have a good day! -- Harshawardhan Nimkhedkar, IBR List Admin _______________________________________________ _______________

If anyone has access to the hard copies (not online transcriptions) of the Bengal Directories for 1835 and for 1843, would it be possible to look up the following and send me a photo of the pages: 1835 - J.V. DeRozario - Wine Merchant at Serampore. 1843 - F.M. Bouchez - Death at Calcutta. Thank you, Keith Cornelius.
