Hi - This question should probably be sent to some other list but am hoping someone on this list can point me in the right direction for a solution. I requested a birth certificate from the City of New York (person born in 1910 and died in 1988). My request was returned with two reasons checked: (1) The law limits the issuance of birth records. A copy of a birth record can be issued only to the person to whom the record of birth relates if over 18 years of age, or to a parent or other legal guardian and (2) Birth records are confidential. We are prohibited by law from issuing copies to be used for genealogical purposes. Has anyone else encountered this problem? I have not encountered this problem in any other state. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Maureen Preta (Florida)
