Hello, my name is Edwin J. "Ed" Smith and this is my first message since subscribing several weeks ago. I desire contact with fellow researchers or decendants of the following surnames in DeKalb Co: SMITH and KINGSBURY, BENDER, BLODGETT, DANIEL, GEISLER, HARDING, HEMSTREET, HOPKINS, KELLEY, LOCKAMIER, McCOOL, SEERY, WIDMER, and YINGLING. Details follow. My grandfather Chester SMITH, was b on 11 Jun 1886, probably in Corunna, to Edwin SMITH and Diantha GEISLER. Edwin and Diantha are buried, along with her parents John GEISLER and Almira BLODGETT and grandfather Alva BLODGETT, in the Corunna Cemetery. Other m children of Edwin and Diantha were Etta m Charles KELLEY; Fidelia m John WIDMER, and Viola m Leonard YINGLING. An unmarried son was Willard M. (at least I cannot find any record.) Another daughter, Bette, apparently d young. Edwin was the son of Darius SMITH and Julia KINGSBURY. Other sons of Darius and Julia were Luman m Margaret McCOOL and Orlando m Ancie DANIEL. Two of their daughters, Sarah and Arminda. m brothers Solomon and Albert HARDING, respectfully. I believe Julia d between Sep 1850 and Jul 1852 in Huron Co, OH. After her death Darius evidently followed his parents to DeKalb Co as he purchased Richland Twp land in Sep 1852. Darius d probably in Richland Twp about 1854 (have not been able to verify this) after selling his land in the township to daughter Sarah. Darius also had twin sons, Barton and Burton, who d while serving with lst Indiana Heavy Artillery unit in the Civil War. Another son, David, d in Corunna of wounds sustained in that war. In all there were eleven children, all b in Huron Co, OH. Darius was the son of David SMITH and Polly SHEDD and they lived in Smithfield Twp having moved there about 1840-1 from Huron Co, OH. Most of their offspring other than Darius, also settled in Smithfield Twp about the same time, among them: Simon m Asenath _____; Leander m Harriet HOPKINS; and daughters m to Andrew BENDER, Jeremiah HEMSTREET, Joseph LOCKAMIER, and David SEERY. David probably d before 21 Aug 1858 which is when Polly sold their Smithfield Twp land to Benjamin Farrington. There was a total of ten children, all born in Jefferson Co, NY, with the exception of the youngest who was b in Huron Co. Any information or connection to the names listed would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for listening. Ed
