Fellow Researchers; Could anyone tell me how or if you can look adoptions records in DeKalb or Noble Counties in Indiana. I have a Eli Borts born November 29, 1845 in DeKalb County, Indiana. According to the 1865 Pow. Twp., Jasper County, Iowa Census he came to Iowa and was living with the Silas & Susanna (Kester) McQuistion family. He was 10 in the census record. As the story goes he was orphaned and was adopted by Henry and Rachel (Kester) Borts There was a Eli Swank, who's father was between his 1st and 2nd wife when Eli was, born in November 1845. I don't know if this Eli Swank is Eli Borts but have a hunch it is. I am also wondering if one of the Kester women is the real mother. I have never seen adoption records so I don't know if they would even tell who his real mother would have been.
