He was living at home with his parents on the Barkey homestead and had been courting a girl in the community. She spurned him it appears, and he became very depressed. He took his own life. If you send me an e-mail I can give you more particulars on this. He is buried in the Highland Center cemetery east of Clatonia. It is a sad story indeed, and almost bnoke his parents' hearts. By the way, I have visited the grave of great Grandma Barkey [Hattie Fox Barkey] in Missouri. She and Aunt Eva, her oldest daughter are buried there. I have more information on them also.
