Mike, I can attest to the fact that both James and George served in the 44th Indiana during the civil war. James claims birth in England and George in Bradford Co., PA; both were shoemakers. (Although James originally gave his age at 45, he was actually 55 and was discharged from Louisville Barraacks for partial paralysis of right arm and old age--then listed as 52 on June 24, 1862. Both are buried at Butler Cemetery. He filed Invalid Pension #198071 and George filed #189171 (Nancy A. filed Widow's Pension #192414 May 14, 1879 and Nancy A. Rummerl, guardian, filed Minor's Pension #204076 Sept. 3, 1882) in case you want to obtain their pension records.
