Mr. Barr resided in Waterloo during the spring and summer months and at Phoenix, Ariz., during the winter months. He died at 4 a.m. Saturday at the Dr. Bonnell M. Souder hospital in Auburn from senility. He had been in failing health for the past several months and entered the hospital on Thursday. Officiating at the services was the Rev. Gene Stolte, pastor of the Methodist church in Waterloo. Burial was in the Waterloo cemetery. Mr. Barr was born near Napoleon, Ohio. He was a retired conductor for the Nichel Plate railroad. His wife, the former Ethel George, preceded him in death. Survivors include a son, Lyle Barr of Phoenix and two grandchildren. Mr. Barr was a member of the Masonic lodge at Waterloo. ----- Auburn Courier, December 15, 1954 WATERLOO WOMAN DIES AT HOSPITAL IN AUBURN --------- Mrs. Harry Barr Passes Away Following Illness of Three Years from a Heart Ailment --------- Mrs. Ethel Barr, 75, wife of Harry Barr of Waterloo, died about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Dr. Bonnell M. Souder hospital in Auburn. Her death was attributed to a heart ailment following in illness of three years. She was admitted to the hospital four weeks ago. The body, removed to the Ettinger Funeral Home in Waterloo, will remain for funeral rites to be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday. Officiating at the rites will be the Rev. Frank L. Engle, pastor of the First Evangelical United Brethren church in Waterloo. Burial will be in the Waterloo cemetery. Mrs. Barr was a native of Waterloo, Born Aug. 3, 1879, daughter of Lucy Goodwin George. She was married to Harry Barr, a railroader, Nov. 28, 1897, at Waterloo. Mrs. Barr lived in Waterloo for 45 years. The other 30 years of her life were spent in Fort Wayne. The late residence was on Railroad Street in Waterloo. Surviving are the husband; a son, Lisle of Phoenix, Ariz.; two grandchildren, one great-grandchild and three brothers, Frank George of Phoenix, Glenn George of Wolcottville and Charles George of Indianapolis. Mrs. Barr was a member of the First EUB Church at Waterloo, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.
