    2. Nancy, In the book "Spencerville" published in 1952 by Dr. Willis W. Carey the following information is listed for Rummell, O. W. (Civil War vet is buried in White City Cemetery south of Spencerville) b. 1837 m. Nancy C. Boyle 5 children: Lizzie, see Shutt (but under shutt I don't find any Lizzie) Louise, see Beams (but under Beams I don't find any Louise) John, m. in West William, M.E. minister, see ministers Hulbert, M. m. Mary Murray 1896 moved to Oklahoma in 1904, died 1946 2 children Muriel R. Waller, helen R. Symonds I also see that under Scott, Alfred that he married Rhoda Boyle and they had 6 children Some folks say this little book isn't complete and some info isn't right -- but -- at least we have it and for that I'm grateful. I think they have a copy of this book at the library in Auburn.

    3. Pam, Children of David B. Knight, as taken from 1850 census, are William, 17; Nancy Jane, 15; Rhoda Samantha, 12; John, 9; Cyrus, 9; Dennis, 7;& James, 4. Also listed in the home was Ephraim Clemens, age 12. I have a Cynthia, 19, mar to John Engle/Ingle,32, & son Martin, 3/12 given in the same census. I cannot explain the Mary Engle, as I've only begun to research Mary Boyle, sister of Jonathan Boyle. I do want to get to Auburn and research in the Library and Court House there. David B. Knight's mother might possibly be Mary Knight, 72, living with James, 31, in the 1850 census as the dwelling number on the census are in a cluster or group. Hope this gives you a clue or sends you in the right direction. 2. I am looking for information on Andrew Hoover and wife Francis who were listed on Wilmington Twp, Dekalb Co census in 1860. However, I could not find them on the 1870 census. Andrew and Frances were from Luzerne County Pennsylvania; Andrew b. about 1814 and Frances b. about 1829. Their children were James, Lucinda, Francis (female), Anne or Ancel (listed as male on PA 1850 cenus and as a female on 1860 Indiana census), Lucinda and Andrew Jr. Any help would be appreciated. 3. Sue, Thanks for your info. You have just answered many questions for me. I'm hoping to get to Auburn to research, but don't know just how soon. The Knight's I've only just learned are part of the family. David B. Knight m Mary Boyle and according to the 1850 census they had 8 eight children. I know nothing about your Michael Knight and family. I am thrilled to hear about the Eckhart Library and what sounds like a wonderful collection. 2. Was wondering, does anyone know about the "Hessen Cassel" or the "Zion Lutheran (German)" cemeteries listed on the page? More specifically the ages of those cemeteries. Or even which cemeteries on the list were pre-1900? My mom and I are making a trip to DeKalb county the 23rd or 24th (in one week!!) and will be looking for any info on: LUMM: John L., Henry, Mary Elizabeth, etc MOORE: John, James Albert, Esther Ruth DEVORE: Julia BASSA/BASSIE/MASSEY: Conrad, Martha Ann The Lumm's and Bassa mixture were all from Kassel Germany in the county/province? of Hessen so we kind of wondered if theyd be buried in that cemetery, but John (and wife) and Conrad (no idea about his wife yet) wouldve died before 1900. Thats why I asked about the age of the cemeteries. The Bassa/Bassie/Massey is a new discovery. Records show about 3-4 spellings with the Bassa variation but mom found an old letter saying that the name was Massey...anyone know of them? Conrad has daughter Martha Ann who married Henry Lumm, together they had 7 children in Garret/Auburn areas. If anyone has any suggestions as to where to find good info in DeKalb, like does that Eckhart Library (that houses the Genealogy society) have a lot of info dedicated to the area? Lots of unanswered questions on this branch! Kathy Huish

    3. Hi Everyone! Last week I got into a conversation on the Virginia Roots list about the circuit-riding preacher, Lorenzo Dow. Lots of us have a Lorenzo Dow 'Somebody' in our data. Since I have a lot of information about the 'original' Lorenzo Dow, they asked if I would post a web page about him. He was born in 1777 in Coventry, CT. Well, I ran home from work and put up the Lorenzo Dow page after supper! I hope you find it interesting. He was something! I can just see him jumping out of a church window onto a horse and riding away shouting that he would be back one year from the day! He did, too! The site is: http://www.acun.com/dentons The link to the article about Lorenzo Dow is about half way down the first page. I hope you enjoy the stories! Blessings! Sue Montgomery-Cook

Nancy: Some Probate Records for early DeKalb County (1837-18xx) exist. I have received copies of some records by writing to the Courthouse. The LDS Church has also microfilmed some of the records, and you can gain access to them at any LDS Family History Center. I don't know if the early records are complete, however. I have a probate record for one of my ancestors who died in DeKalb in 1846. It discusses the sale of his personal goods and payment of debts, but does not mention (even once!) his widow, 4 children aged 14 and under at the time of his death, or the disposition of his land. This has always led me to suspect that other records must have existed at some point, but have probably been destroyed. Janet

    3. Fellow Researchers; Could anyone tell me how or if you can look adoptions records in DeKalb or Noble Counties in Indiana. I have a Eli Borts born November 29, 1845 in DeKalb County, Indiana. According to the 1865 Pow. Twp., Jasper County, Iowa Census he came to Iowa and was living with the Silas & Susanna (Kester) McQuistion family. He was 10 in the census record. As the story goes he was orphaned and was adopted by Henry and Rachel (Kester) Borts There was a Eli Swank, who's father was between his 1st and 2nd wife when Eli was, born in November 1845. I don't know if this Eli Swank is Eli Borts but have a hunch it is. I am also wondering if one of the Kester women is the real mother. I have never seen adoption records so I don't know if they would even tell who his real mother would have been. Eli Borts born 29 November, 1845 Eli Swank born November, 1845 Henry and Rachel Kester Borts married 1849 Eli Borts was in Iowa somewhere between 1850 and 1856 Henry and Rachel Borts in Iowa between 1850 and 1856 If any one can help me in my mystery please let me know.
