    3. I am compiling information on 1860-1870. The following was found in the DeKalb Democrat for April 26, 1866. A legal notice stted taht George W. Woodcox and Byron A. Woodcox were appointed aministratiors for the estate of Cornelius Woodcox, late of Concord Township. Since there has been fires at the Court House, I am not sure if there would be probate records or not. I am lookong for information on Cornelius Woodcox who died 20, March, 1864 and is buried in the old Evergreen cemetary in Newville, DeKalb, IN. 3. Well my Fair's crossed the Ohio/Indiana border and headed north a bit. They were in Miami and Montgomery Counties. Peter was one of the original pioneers of DeKalb Co. and was the first Commissioner. The Zerfus/Surfas/Surface family is connected also with mine. I hope to locate more researching theses families. Henry Fair is said to have died along the trail to Oregon from Cholera. Some say he was buried near the fork of the North Platte River. Henry and his half-brother Peter were leading a Wagon Trail, Peter continued and I would like to learn more about these two brothers.. 3. The intention and declaration did not need to be filed in the same place, just "in any court of record" usually in the area the person lived. In Ohio, I've found Naturalization papers in Chancery court till mid 1800's then Probate court...after about 1908 they'd be with Immigration & Naturalization District office...(hopefully). They needed to be in the US for 5 years to file intent, then a year longer for final papers. Except: if they served in the military, usually most of the "criteria" was waived I believe.... check the census 1900 and more recent to see if they're listed as naturalized.... Good hunting. (He was from England). There is no title on this paper to tell what it is. It looks like a Declaration of Intent. Would his Petition for Naturalization papers be in DeKalb County as this other paper was? How much information did the Petition for Naturalization give back then? I'm hoping to find the ships name, and if he came with any siblings or other family. I would surely appreciate some help. Thanks! Yours in Christ, Debbie

    2. I'll second that and add to it...is there an index of naturalizations for DeKalb county? I've always wondered if our LUMM and Bassa/Bassie/Basse/Massey?(spelled all different ways in dekalb birth records) families were naturalized there. Originally from Kassel Germany areas...so I kinda wonder if Henry Lumm et al are buried in the Hessen cemetery in Dekalb too. Kathy
