I am so sorry. Just realized that this was sent to the wrong list. My apologies. Maureen Preta (Florida)
Hi - This question should probably be sent to some other list but am hoping someone on this list can point me in the right direction for a solution. I requested a birth certificate from the City of New York (person born in 1910 and died in 1988). My request was returned with two reasons checked: (1) The law limits the issuance of birth records. A copy of a birth record can be issued only to the person to whom the record of birth relates if over 18 years of age, or to a parent or other legal guardian and (2) Birth records are confidential. We are prohibited by law from issuing copies to be used for genealogical purposes. Has anyone else encountered this problem? I have not encountered this problem in any other state. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Maureen Preta (Florida)

To all Reed (by any spelling) Researchers, My name is Nell Logue and I have a database of around 50,000 Reeds (by any spelling) and Kin. I am doing Look-ups for all interested researchers, but I need more Reed (by any spelling) information. Please submit your information to me to go in the Database. I would appreciate it very much and it will help so many other people. I am trying to get information from all over the USA and also foreign countries. After your information has been received and put in the Reed Database you may send in for Look-Ups on your Reeds (by any spelling) that perhaps someone else may have sent me. Please send your information to me at [email protected] (Note the 3 'l's in the Nelll). In the subject line please write Reed Information If at all possible send your information in GEDCOM format, as I can import it right into the database. Text documents have to be typed in and take a lot of time. Your genealogy program manual will tell you how to export a GEDCOM. Try it. It is not difficult to do, but if, after your try it, you can not do it, then send your information any way you know how. I am going to be taking a short rest period from the Look-Ups while getting in all of this new information and getting it in the Database. So when everything is ready to start the Look-Ups again I will put a message on the Reed Genforum at http://genforum.genealogy.com/reed/ and also on the Read Genforum at http://genforum.genealogy.com/read/ and also on the Read List at [email protected] <[email protected]>. When you send in for a Look-Up please write Reed Look-Up in the subject line. By the way, if you have books on Reeds (by any spelling) the information from those books would be great to go in the Database. They may contain the one ancestor that someone has been hunting. I will be looking for your Reed information. Please help. Nell
Johan Ulrich Koch immigrated from Baden, Germany in 1813, at the age of 16, supposedly to escape service in the Prussian Army. He next surfaces in Wooster, Wayne County, Ohio in 1820 where he married Barbara Rebman/Repman, according to family tradition written by grandson Simon R. I am looking for obituaries for Carolina (Arolina) Bartlett who died Dec. 27, 1882, and Frazier Bartlett, died May 16, 1860. They are buried in the old Evergreen cemetary in Newville. Frazier may have died in Allen County, but since he is buried in Newville, I thought perhaps there would be an obituary for him in St. Joe. I am not sure of Carolina's place of death. Am also looking for an obituary for Byron A. Woodcox, died Sept. 3, 1898. I believe he is also buried in Newville. Does anyone know what zip code to use for Newville? I am writing to the United Methodist Church but there is no zip code for Newville. Do I use St. Joe or Butler? Thanks for any help. Gwen

Debbie, That was the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railroad and was being built in the 1860's and 1870's. Will get back with you later re: area it traveled through the county. Do you have John Martin Smith's books? He has quite a bit about this railroad. Talk again Lucy --- "THOMAS P. Hi, I just found out that my great grandfather, Robert William McNabb, worked for the New York Central Lines Railroad, when he was 18. This is what it says on the badge he wore on his cap. Station Baggage Agent L.S. & M.S. R.W. New York Central Lines Service Date- 1884 I was told the initials stand for Lake Shore & Michigan Southern. I do not know what the R.W. stands for, unless it's rail way. Did this line run through Garrett or Butler? As far as I know he only lived in the DeKalb- Allen County area. I would appreciate any help anyone could give about this railway line. Is there a place to write for records of employees? Would anyone at the railroad museum in Garrett, know about this? Thank you for any help you can offer. Yours in Christ, Debbie
I found a Cornelius Woodcox on the 1850 DeKalb County Census for Concord Twp. You can access this by going to the following address: http://www.rootsweb.com/~indekalb/census/1850/concord.txt I hope this helps. Yours in Christ, Debbie
I am looking for information on P.E. Glennen. I got the name from a Butler Cemetery Records card. The grave upkeep was being paid for by Ella (McNabb) Brower and then by her brother, James A. McNabb. Does anyone know who P.E. Glennen was? This person is buried in lot number 308, next to Daniel T. McNabb (lot 309) Daniel is Ella and James' uncle. I'd surely appreciate any help anyone can give. Thank you! Yours in Christ, Debbie

Eliza Thanks so much for your help. George E. Woodcox (my line) and Byron A. Woodcox were sons of Cornelius. I will write to the records department to see if any probate records survived the fires. There is a Wayne McNabb still living in the Butler area and his brother Robert lives outside of Auburn. If you are ever back in this area you might try calling either of them for some help. Wayne is in the Butler phone book and I think Robert is probably in the Auburn phone book.
I am looking for some record of my ggg-grandfather, Robert McNabb. He died sometime between 1870 and 1880. In his wife's obituary, it said he died in 1873, but I found in the October 14, 1875 issue of the Auburn Courier, under the heading, "Butler Items", that "Mr. McNabb died at the residence of his son, D. McNabb of this place." I believe this is Robert, even though the death dates are off a couple of years. This is the only record I have of him. With all this said, can anyone tell me where else to look? I've been through the Butler Cemetery and couldn't find him. Where was he buried, was there a mortician, is there anything that would tell me anything about this man! (I'm frustrated, he's been my brick wall for years!) Thanks for any help anyone can offer. Yours in Christ, Debbie
