Recently, I have had the opportunity to visit the Garrett Library. If any of you have roots in the Garrett area and have materials to donate, this library is seeking to build their local collections. The head librarian is Kate Birdseye. At one time she was a manager of the Allen County Genealogy Society and is very interested in establishing a GOOD genealogy department for that area. The Waterloo Library has a good collection of materials for that vicinity. They are seeking to build information for the Waterloo Area. Linda Dunn is the head librarian and even though their room is limited, they would welcome any materials on the Waterloo area and ancestors. Of course, the Eckhart Public Library would welcome materials and information on the entire county; and especially areas and genealogies from the entire county. We are looking for old newspapers, books and historical information. Thanks for letting me chat with you and assisting us to build information that will be beneficial to all the libraries and the web page. Well actually there are two Peter Kester families in DeKalb Co. Peter S. Kester who married Annabelle Widney. I believe they lived in Wilmington Twp for a time. He is of Quaker heritage and there is a book on the family called: The Pound and Kester families, containing an account of the ancestry of John Pound (born in 1735) and William Kester (born in 1733) and a genealogical record of all their descendants and other family historical matter. Comp. by John E. Hunt. Chicago, Regan printing house, 1904. The other is Peter Kester (probably originally spelled Keister) who married Lydia Sherwood (my ancestors). They lived in Jackson Twp. He died young at 42 yrs old and is buried in Watsons Cemetery. They apparently were born in PA, but also lived in Ashland Co., OH for a while. Still looking for their parents' names. Both Peters were born about the same year although in different places. Cheryl Milukas
Cheryl, There is a lady from Columbia City working on Peter and Anna Kester--She has contacted the court House and that is how I am aware of it. Hi Patricia! As far as I know I am not related to the Watson family, but my ancestors, Peter and Lydia Kester, are buried in Watson's Cemetery. (They also came from Ashland Co., OH.) Would it be a lot of trouble to post what's going on with the restoration project after the reunion and ways that individuals out-of-state can help? Thanks. Cheryl Milukas [email protected]

Isaac Springer was the son of Abner Springer and Jane Carney. He was born 18 Nov 1842. His obituary shows he died 19 Aug 1894 in Butler, DeKalb Co, Ind., but was buried with his parents in Greenwood Cem., LaGrange Co., Ind. His obit also lists his wife Harriet Dodge and daughters Rosa and Lola M. Springer. I need dates for these Springer ladies, and spouses for the daughters. Is Harriet Dodge Springer also buried with her husband?? Thank you, Kathleen Rizer

DeKalb WebGen page and Eckhart Library volunteers and staff: You all do a *great* job. I've been regularly visiting the DeKalb page for several months now. You have a lot of material there, update it regularly, and it's easy to use. I also went to the Eckhart Library last weekend, and it's a very fine, comfortable place to do research. It's easy to tell that everyone connected with the Indiana Room and the library overall cares about the material and making it accessible. (I've visited many web sites and half a dozen libraries this summer. These things are not as universally true as we all might wish...) Your dedication and hard work show. *Thank you!* We "ancestor diggers" appreciate you. In DeKalb County, we had an area called "College Corner" with a College Corner School. The school was started in the 1850-1860 era. We have been searching to discover why the name "College Corner." I notice that Jay, Madison, Wabash and Wayne have areas known as College Corner. Can anyone tell me the why and how these areas were named College Corner. Looking for any possible clues. I recently traveled to Auburn and spent several hours in the Library Genealogy room. The visit was most rewarding. Thanks to all those volunteers who have collected and documented the history of the area. A special thanks to Eliza who was in the library that day and assisted me in my research. James John May, was born June 16, 1835 in England and came to America when he was about 11 years of age, locating in Medina County Ohio with his parents. He was first married to Caroline C. Smith of Medina County Ohio, November 18, 1858. He then moved to St. Jones, Michigan, where he enlisted with the 21st Michigan Infantry at the beginning of the Civil War. He was later assigned to the 2nd Michigan Calvary and served until the end of the war. Caroline died while James was in the service. In 1865 James settled in DeKalb County Indiana and married Mary S. Arrants of Milford Center Ohio. Mary died following the birth of a son Vilvor James May, who was born on August 08, 1867. On January 11, 1869 James married Julia A. Mluholand of Carey Ohio. To this marriage two daughters, Sylvia H May, and Alma May were born. Alma's married name was Sweeney and she had two sons, Jack Sweeney and Joseph Sweeney. Silvia married twice, first to a Mr. Hamilton, then to Robert B. VanSkike. Sylvia d! ied on April 24, 1940 in Kenosha WI. The father of James John May was John May of England. The 1850 census shows a John Mays and wife Ann, with children resided in Medina Ohio, however they do not appear on the 1860 census in Medina. By 1860 James John May's residence was probably St. Johns Michigan where he interred the Union Army. It is possible his father John and family relocated there also. James died September 26, 1908 in Auburn IN., and is buried there in Woodlawn Cemetery with his last wife Julia. James John May was my GG grandfather, and I am seeking information on all members of this family with particular interest in his parents and their children. His second wife Mary S. Arrants was my GG grandmother, and I am most interested in her family and origin. Richard P. May [email protected] Descendants of John May 1 John May Abt.1813 - ? .. +(Probably) Ann?
