"Mary E. Darling, daughter of William E. and Lydia A. Darling, was born in Dearborn county, Ind., July 25th 1869, died October 23d, 1888; aged 19 years, 2 months, and 28 days. Alice F. Darling, eldest (sic) daughter of William E. and Lydia A. Darling was born in Dearborn county, Ind., September 14th, 1874., died December 14th, 1888, aged 14 years and 3 months. How truly has it been said: "The king of shadows loves a shining mark." His arrows have fallen in our midst and two loved ones have gone from earth to grace the scenes of Paradise. Alice and May (sic) were well and favorably known in the community where they resided; and to know them was to esteem them highly for the many graces of their character; their amiable disposition; their quiet, gentle ways; and their considerate and courteous conduct toward those whom they met. Both were members in good standing of the M.E. Church at Wright's Corner. They were humble, conscientious christians and took pleasure in attending religious services, and in faithfully and earnestly performing their duties as children of God. Both passed from the scenes of earth in the full assurance of a blessed immortality. While the hearts of parents, brothers, sisters and friends, are touched with a sense of their absence: while they are gone from the presence of those who loved them on earth, and will no more be seen in the group around the hearth of home, nor mingling in the circle of their associates, there comes, like a benediction from heaven, the cheering thought that they still live in happier scenes in a fairer clime. Their memory will be sacredly cheished in the loving hearts of their relatives and numerous friends. The bereaved family has the sympathy of the entire community in their great affliction. Funeral services in their memory were held at the residence fo their father Sunday, December 16th, 1888, conducted by their pastor, Rev. W.K. Burton, assisted by John M.B. Reeves, of Guilford. The very appropriate text used by the pastor as the foundation for his remarks was these words: "Were lovely and pleasant in their lives, and in their death they were not divided." NOTE: I am not related, and have no further information.
