When I was growing up in southeastern Indiana (about 5-8 miles from Sparta), we called it gently rolling. Now that I live in flat north central Texas, I would it consider it hilly. There are lots of family farms and small fields with larger pastures. On a 60 acre farm perhaps 20-25 might be tillable, the rest would be pasture land. Sparta lies between Aurora which is right on the Ohio River and Milan, Indiana. The land does get a bit flatter as you travel farther away from the river. There are web sites that you can go to for aerial photography to show you something of what the area looks like. I cannot remember the link right now, but I think even yahoo will give you a topo map.
