    1. [INDEARBO] Several questions regarding Dearborn County
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: OSLAGE, OSLIETE, ASLACHER, ASLAGE, TONGES Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Sh.2ADI/4190 Message Board Post: I am researching my OSLAGE family history, and keep running into those darn brick walls. This line has given me so many troubles and I'm about ready to give it up. My GGGgrandparents, Jacob H. Oslage & Dorcas Clark, were married on December 18, 1848 in Dearborn County. Does anyone know who to contact to inquire about getting a copy of the marriage record? The 1850 census shows Jacob & Dorcas living in Hamilton County, Ohio (last named spelled as ASLAGE). For all my research, I can't figure out how far Hamilton County was/is from Dearborn. The reason I am asking is because their oldest son, George, was born in Hamilton County. It's almost as if Jacob & Dorcas married in Dearborn, crossed over to Hamilton, had George, then went back to Dearborn and had their second son, Francis. For all I know, though, Francis was born in Ohio, as well. The only census record I've ever been able to find him on, the 1860 - he, his parents, and his brother George, they're all living in Carrollton County, Kentucky. It's indicated that Francis was born in Indiana. (Name spelled as CALAGO) It just makes me want to scream.. how could a family move around so much in that time?!? Especially only to move back to Dearborn County in 1861 - just in time for the birth of my GGgrandfather? It doesn't help that Jacob joined the Union in 1862, and died durin! g the advancement at the Battle of Walnut Hills in Mississippi on July 3, 1863. Dorcas drops from the radar screen. George reappears in 1870, living with Jacob's brother in Vanderburgh County - then moves on to Arkansas in 1880. (Then, he too, drops off the earth.) I am unable to locate Francis in 1870. He died October 19, 1875 in Vanderburgh County, Indiana after being hit by a train. My gg-grandfather, Fred, he appears in 1870 in Dubois County living with the family of William Tonges - and the spelling variation on that is OSLIETE. (I've also found it as ASLACHER). By 1880, he's in Vanderburgh County, as well - but the question still remains.. where's his mother? If I can find proof that Fred was born in Aurora, maybe I can determine she died in there, too. Or remarried, but I wouldn't have the slightest clue as to what the new married name would be. She could have also died giving birth to Fred, as she was 41 at the time. I just don't know. This family has me all confudd! led and it would appear that the mystery lies within Dearborn County.. . if anyone can give me any help, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
