My name is Alice Bauer and I'm searching for information on my husbands great grandfather. Charles was born in Germany in 1825 and came to America about 1847. He first located in Poughkeepsie, NY and about 1854 moved to Aurora where in carried on a sash and door factory and later became a carpenter. According to information I found several years ago in the Aurora library in 'Our County, Part II' - "Charles built the Catholic Church, priest's house, schoolhouse, Indiana House, brewery and several other buildings. In 1865 he was elected councilman from the 2nd Ward and served 18 years. He was a member of Chosen Friends Lodge #13 1OOF, the Druids and Druid Encompment and the Lutheran Church". I know he had several children: Mary, Louisa, Therissa, Harriet, Emily, Carrie and my husband's grandfather Charles (1868-1929). I have been unable to find any information on the daughters. I'm also looking for dates of death, obituaries and/or the cemetery where Charles and his wife Cathrine my be buried and any information on the girls.
