"Death of Emil F. Matheus. Amid the ringing of the bells and the gathering of our people in the churches to-day, to return their grateful thanks for the many blessings of the past year there is one househould (sic) that makes its way sadly to the house of God, to look for the last time upon the manly face of its first born. His young years were full of promise, and our warmest sympathy goes out to the stricken father, who loved him almost to idolatry. Emil F. Matheus, who died last Monday, of consuption, at the early age of twenty years, was well known to most of our citizens, as he was born and reared in Lawrenceburgh. At the age of sixteen, he was sent to the Polytechnic Institute, at Karlsruhe, Germany, where his studies were completed. On his return he was employed with his father, Mr. P. L. Matheus, in the Lawrenceburgh National Bank. After the sale of that institution, he was employed as the book keeper for Mesrs. J. Rief & Bro., where he remained until attacked by the disease of which he died. He was a young man of rare intelligence, excellent principles, and good habits, and his early death carries grief beyond his own family into a large circle of appreciative friends. The funeral was held this afternoon, and the remains were interred in Greendale Cemetery---the Lawrenceburgh Liedertafel, of which the deceased was a member, and the various societies with which his father was connected, joining in the services, to exhibit their high regard for the deceased, and their deep sympathy for the stricken father and his family." NOTE: I am not related, and have no further information on this person. Kathleen Esposito
