    3. Hamilton County Ohio is next to Dearborn County to the East. Cincinnati, Ohio is in Hamilton County. Here is some info that might help. I have been able to find old records from the historical society. Records only go back to 1826, there was a fire in the court house. The historical society has microfilms of most old records. Surnames: OSLAGE, OSLIETE, ASLACHER, ASLAGE, TONGES Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Sh.2ADI/4190 Message Board Post: I am researching my OSLAGE family history, and keep running into those darn brick walls. This line has given me so many troubles and I'm about ready to give it up. My GGGgrandparents, Jacob H. Oslage & Dorcas Clark, were married on December 18, 1848 in Dearborn County. Does anyone know who to contact to inquire about getting a copy of the marriage record? The 1850 census shows Jacob & Dorcas living in Hamilton County, Ohio (last named spelled as ASLAGE). For all my research, I can't figure out how far Hamilton County was/is from Dearborn. The reason I am asking is because their oldest son, George, was born in Hamilton County. It's almost as if Jacob & Dorcas married in Dearborn, crossed over to Hamilton, had George, then went back to Dearborn and had their second son, Francis. For all I know, though, Francis was born in Ohio, as well. The only census record I've ever been able to find him on, the 1860 - he, his parents, and his brother George, they're all living in Carrollton County, Kentucky. It's indicated that Francis was born in Indiana. (Name spelled as CALAGO) It just makes me want to scream.. how could a family move around so much in that time?!? Especially only to move back to Dearborn County in 1861 - just in time for the birth of my GGgrandfather? It doesn't help that Jacob joined the Union in 1862, and died durin! g the advancement at the Battle of Walnut Hills in Mississippi on July 3, 1863. Dorcas drops from the radar screen. George reappears in 1870, living with Jacob's brother in Vanderburgh County - then moves on to Arkansas in 1880. (Then, he too, drops off the earth.) I am unable to locate Francis in 1870. He died October 19, 1875 in Vanderburgh County, Indiana after being hit by a train. My gg-grandfather, Fred, he appears in 1870 in Dubois County living with the family of William Tonges - and the spelling variation on that is OSLIETE. (I've also found it as ASLACHER). By 1880, he's in Vanderburgh County, as well - but the question still remains.. where's his mother? If I can find proof that Fred was born in Aurora, maybe I can determine she died in there, too. Or remarried, but I wouldn't have the slightest clue as to what the new married name would be. She could have also died giving birth to Fred, as she was 41 at the time. I just don't know. This family has me all confudd! led and it would appear that the mystery lies within Dearborn County.. . if anyone can give me any help, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

    2. Dan - that is awesome! The only thing that comes second to that is that Ohio State just won the football game!!! Anyway, I did find Charles, Catharine & Theresa in the 1900 census and yesterday I found Theresa living with married sister Emily and her family (August F Margileth) living in Springfield, Clark Co, Ohio. I recently unburied the obituary for my husbands grandfather and it gave me the married names of his sisters: Mrs A F Margileth, Mrs Carrie Stoddehill of Detroit, Mrs Fred Isselhardt, Mrs Louis Martin and Theresa from Aurora. I spent all last evening searching for them and did turn up a Fred Isselhardt in Aurora in 1920 census, but the name of the wife was 'Henry Eatta' which might be Harriett. I was also searching 'Bowers' which I guess is why I didn't find the family in other census. So thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I truly don't know if Charles had brothers. My sister-in-law is the only family member still living who remembers their grandmother and she doesn't recall hearing of any other Bauer's. But it does seem like more than a coincidence that our families lived so close, so anything is possible. If I could just find the immigration information from 1847 maybe that would give us more information. Thanks again and I'll stay in touch with any additional information that I might turn up. 3. Hello Alice, I have found a Charles F. Bauer born 3MAR1825 in Germany and died 2SEP1906 buried in Riverview Cemetery, Dearborn County, Indiana. Also Theresa Bauer born 8JAN1857 died 31MAR1949. She was kin of Charles & Katherine. No other Bauer's that match. I am related to a John Bauer born 1828 (2nd Great Grand Uncle) married to Julia Ann Malzner. In 1860 census he was called John Barr with Julia A. and Catherine age 56. Could he be a brother to your Charles? Is this Catherine the mother of both Charles and John? John and Julia Ann are also in Riverwiew Cemetery. In 1870 census there is a Charley Bower that appears to be your family and they were three families away from my family. In 1880 Charles Bower and family were living with Charles Martin and wife Louisa and family. In 1900 Charles Bauer and family consisted of Charles, Catherine and Theresa. Hope this helps your search. If you have any xonnection with my John and you Charles let me know.
