Please do not be offended by what I am going to say. I have been scanning these Indiana message boards for about 5 years, helping people whenever I can and I must say this query is one of the worse I have seen. You want info about your grandparents but do not give us any thing to start with. Would be nice if we had such info as names, location and timeframe. And what do you mean when you say you want to know what happened to your roots? Don
Hi, I found An Earl Kinder, b, 9/11/1921,-1/1972, but your info isn't very much to go on a "search " with. Hope this helps! That'll come in handy. Hopefully I can find out more on John somewhere. That was the family I inquired about and you answered my questions. Thank you. I very much appreciate it. And good luck in any research you do or are working on.
The South Sparta Church was organized by Rev. J.H. Markham in 1888. The land was donated by Mrs. Glass and the church was built in eight months with a dedication in September, 1889 under Rev. A.E.Ewers. The church is still maintained by the community. They have services once a month. No phone, no Email, no address, no bathroom! I have pictures, if interested, taken last fall. It's a lovely little church. It was my Mother's church. Issac Shafer's dates are worn away. -----Original Message----- From: indearbo-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:indearbo-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of gc-gateway@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, December 19, 2006 2:01 PM To: INDEARBO-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [INDEARBO] South Sparta Church & Cemetery This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. In a message dated 12/19/2006 6:32:01 P.M. Central Standard Time, indearbo-request@rootsweb.com writes: I'm interested in knowing what the Sparta area looks like, mainly the topographical layout of the land. When I was growing up in southeastern Indiana (about 5-8 miles from Sparta), we called it gently rolling. Now that I live in flat north central Texas, I would it consider it hilly. There are lots of family farms and small fields with larger pastures. On a 60 acre farm perhaps 20-25 might be tillable, the rest would be pasture land. Sparta lies between Aurora which is right on the Ohio River and Milan, Indiana. The land does get a bit flatter as you travel farther away from the river. There are web sites that you can go to for aerial photography to show you something of what the area looks like. I cannot remember the link right now, but I think even yahoo will give you a topo map.

This family is found in the 1880 census for Sparta and only two doors away from Isaac's family, which leads me to think the two families are related. In this household, there is an Elisabeth Shaefer (aged 60), Hannah (35), Ella (15), and Simon (33). Plus a boarder or hired hand (Oscar Ruble, 24). What I am seeking is information on Elizabeth. Apparently she's married. She and her husband were born in PA about 1820. Her husband was obviously a Shaefer, maybe an uncle or cousin of Isaac. Does anyone have info on Elizabeth and the name of her husband? Possibly a burial location? Any help other than what I have given will be greatly appreciated.

I wasn't expecting a response so fast. I'm glad you replied though. That information will be very useful. Where do you suppose I could go on the internet to find the info you weren't able to get? Like the children's names and dates? I don't have the money to have someone research Isaac more thoroughly. As you probably know, I'm very interested in Isaac. Out of the family he was born into, he's the only one I know of that left Lancaster Pa. Plus I've been to Indiana already, mainly the Grant and Delaware counties. So I'm interested in knowing what the Sparta area looks like, mainly the topographical layout of the land. I'll be sure to write down the info you were able to supply me with. Do you think the cemetary would have Isaac's exact dates recorded? I don't suppose you know anything about him having a second wife since Adelia died so early? I would think he would have married. Any thoughts?
