    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Elder, Roberts Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Sh.2ADI/1839 Message Board Post: Source: The Lawrenceburg Press, Aug. 4, 1870 ed. Under the heading of Aurora Items, lists the source as 'The Advocate.' "Died, at the residence of her father, Mr. L.G. Elder, in Hogan township, on the 23d inst., of consumption, Mrs. Eliza J. Roberts, consort of Omar F. Roberts, aged 33 years, 11 months and 20 days. The deceased was born on the 3d of August, 1836, on North Hogan creek, where under the ripening influences of a Christian home, she grew to womanhood, developing a strong natural mind, allied with great fortitude, and yet softened by the kindly graces that adorn a woman's life. She was married on Christmas day, 1860, and was the mother of one child, which died on the 17th of April, 1863. Several years since she made a public profession of religion, and at the time of her death was a consistent member of the M.E. Church at Aurora. For the past eighteen years, Mrs. Roberts has been an invalid, her disease, consumption, slowly yet surely wearing away her life. Her sufferings were borne with fortitude, and no murmur of complain ever escaped her lips. When the final hour came, and a few moments before her death, she called her husband and relatives to her bedside, shook hands with each and bade them all farewell, rejoicing that her afflictions were at an end, and assured them that her rest would be in heaven." 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Darling Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Sh.2ADI/1828 Message Board Post: Source: The Lawrenceburg Register, Thurs., Dec. 27, 1888 ed. "Mary E. Darling, daughter of William E. and Lydia A. Darling, was born in Dearborn county, Ind., July 25th 1869, died October 23d, 1888; aged 19 years, 2 months, and 28 days. Alice F. Darling, eldest (sic) daughter of William E. and Lydia A. Darling was born in Dearborn county, Ind., September 14th, 1874., died December 14th, 1888, aged 14 years and 3 months. How truly has it been said: "The king of shadows loves a shining mark." His arrows have fallen in our midst and two loved ones have gone from earth to grace the scenes of Paradise. Alice and May (sic) were well and favorably known in the community where they resided; and to know them was to esteem them highly for the many graces of their character; their amiable disposition; their quiet, gentle ways; and their considerate and courteous conduct toward those whom they met. Both were members in good standing of the M.E. Church at Wright's Corner. They were humble, conscientious christians and took pleasure in attending religious services, and in faithfully and earnestly performing their duties as children of God. Both passed from the scenes of earth in the full assurance of a blessed immortality. While the hearts of parents, brothers, sisters and friends, are touched with a sense of their absence: while they are gone from the presence of those who loved them on earth, and will no more be seen in the group around the hearth of home, nor mingling in the circle of their associates, there comes, like a benediction from heaven, the cheering thought that they still live in happier scenes in a fairer clime. Their memory will be sacredly cheished in the loving hearts of their relatives and numerous friends. The bereaved family has the sympathy of the entire community in their great affliction. Funeral services in their memory were held at the residence fo their father Sunday, December 16th, 1888, conducted by their pastor, Rev. W.K. Burton, assisted by John M.B. Reeves, of Guilford. The very appropriate text used by the pastor as the foundation for his remarks was these words: "Were lovely and pleasant in their lives, and in their death they were not divided." "Died, at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. Wm. McMullen, near Hogan Hill Baptist Church, Mrs. Elizabeth Manliff Platt, widow of Smith Platt. Mrs. Platt was born in Tennessee, Decemer 17th, 1807, and at the time of her death, which occurred December 24(?-hard to read), 1888, was nearly 81 years of age---She was married to Mr. Smith Platt in 1825, with whom she lived until his death, which occurred about six years ago. To them were born eleven children, five sons and six daughters; six of these children are still living. She united with the Baptist Church when very young, and since then her life has been that of a christian lady. Her last sickness was of short duration and free from pain. She remained conscious until almost the last, and died as one going to sleep. Shortly before she died she told her children that she was "going home," thus leaving bright evidence that she was worthy of that rest that remains to the people of God. Her funeral services were held at the Hogan Hill Baptist Church, December 5th, 1888, in the presence of a large company of sorrowing friends. The services were conducted by Rev. S.O. Christian, pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church, assisted by Rev. Horace Wilson, of Moore's Hill." NOTE: I am not related, and have no further information.

    1. [INDEARBO] Death of Addison Bookwalter
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Bookwalter Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Sh.2ADI/1824 Message Board Post: Source: The Lawrenceburg Register, May 7, 1874 ed. "Addison Bookwalter, for many years the editor and publisher of this paper, died at his residence in this city last Tuesday afternoon. Never enjoying good health, he had been failing rapidly during the past year, and last week, while at Indianapolis, he was taken worse and brought home, gradually sinking until his death resulted as above stated. Mr. Bookwalter was born in Ross Co., Ohio, Oct. 17, 1829. At an early age he was apprenticed to the printing business and upon attaining his majority commenced publishing a paper in Chillicothe, O. Being burned out in 1852, he came to Lawrenceburgh the next year, and engaged in the publication of the Register, which he continued for about 17 years, when he sold out to the present proprietor. Subsequently he published a paper for a short time at Mattoon, Ill., since which time the state of his helath has prevented him from engaging in any active employment. Mr. Bookwalter was a man of considerable ability as a newspaper man and a man of business, in which capacity he succeeded in surrounding himself with warm friends. As a husband and father his best qualities were developed, and the grief of his orphaned family testify how great is their loss. He had his faults, like other men, but among his friends they will soon be forgotten, and the remembrance of his virtues only will linger among those who knew him well enough to appreciate what was manly and noble in his character. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church yesterday morning, Rev. Mr. Little officiating. The remains were deposited in the City Cemetery, where we trust he may rest in peace, and the work of his life be revised and approved by the Great Author."
