May 15, 1873 ed. under the heading of Aurora. "Fatal Accident. Mrs. Kleiner, wife of Henry Kleiner, one of the proprietors of the new furniture factory, on Decatur street, was very dangerously if not fatally burned yesterday (Wednesday) about noon, caused by the bottom melting from a bucket containing coal tar, which was being heated upon the stove. The tar instantly flashed up setting fire to her clothing, and before assistance could reach her she was dreadfully burned. Her little child, a babe some three or four months old, was also painfully but not seriously burned. Since writing the above we learn that Mrs. Kleiner died from the effects of her injuries, about 7 o'clock, Wednesday evening." NOTE: I am not related, and have no further information. Surnames: Heustis Saxton Hamilton Odell Jones Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/5519/Sh.2ADI/1333.1431 Message Board Post: After further research, Caroline S. Heustis was born Caroline Smith, per a long-time Dearborn County researcher. Caroline, her husband Henry and her first two children can be found in the Newburgh, Orange County, NY 1850 US Census, family 1595. Their child Stephen was born in Illinois in 1857 according to later Census data, so apparently Henry and Caroline followed Henry's father Jesse to Illinois in 1856, then removed to Dearborn County after March 1857 and before 1860. The family is present in Lawrenceburgh in 1860, 1870 and 1880 according to Census records. Given the 1850 Census presence of Caroline and Henry in the house of John Scott, aged 60, and the presence of a Maria Smith, aged 53, it is possible that Caroline's middle name could be Scott in honor of her mother's maiden surname, but that is complete speculation at this point. Only five children of Henry and Caroline are known by me, so the name of the sixth child mentioned in the obituary (if anyone has it) would be of interest.

My guess is your John was probably the nephey of my ggggrandmother, Nancy Kennedy McMullen of Manchester twp, Dearborn Co.. According to my records JOHN KENNEDY 1777of S.C. migrated to Pa. where he married Elizabeth McMath - younger sister to my gggggrandmother, Nancy McMath McMullen. Their children were: John 1803 Margaret 1805 Eliza 1807 Mary 1809 Samuel M 1811 William 1813 Robert 1815 Nancy 1819 James 1821 Catherine 1823 All were born in Pa. according to my records. Whether the entire family migrated to Indiana or not, I don't know. I do know that Samuel and Nancy came. Nancy married Hugh and Nancy McMath's son, James. It would appear that Samuel was married at least twice because his oldest son, James, was born in 1825. The only marriage I have found for him, however, was to Harriet Ellingwood in 1840. She was of Dearborn Co. and they were married in Dearborn Co. To this union were born the following: Elizabeth 1841 Nancy D 1843 John B. 31 Jan 1848 In 1847 James md. Elmira _____ and their children were: Emily J 1848 Leuis Y 1849 Elizabeth 1851 Nancy 1853 I have no further information on that family Nancy D md Gilbert Platt 24 April 1877 No children My information on John B has him married to Sarah _______ (no marriage date). I have no further information other than that my notes state he lived in Batesville, In. I hope this may be of some help to you. Karen
