    2. Karen M Mittan
    3. I am a descendent of the Hugh McMullen who homesteaded in Manchester twp., Dearborn Co. in the early 1800s. I have been working from the descendency chart begun by Meda Garrigues and furthered by Gertrude McMullen Heitmeyer. I have added quite a bit to the chart but still have a great deal of research to do. At present I am seeking descendants of Ira Tinker and Ella/Abby McMullen - whose children were Samuel, Nancy, Hugh, James, Jane and Stephan -as well as descendants of John McMullen’s youngest daughter, Fanny, and her husband - said to have had the last name of Kolb or Kalb and to have moved with him to Washington. I also need information about how I might be able to contact Gertrude’s children by her first husband, Carlton Curtis Lawson. I lost track of Gertrude nearly a decade ago. I’m sure she’s passed away and would like to have that information for my records.

I do not know anymore about these families or these surnames. NOTE: I don’t know if there is any additional mention of this family in the book, it has no index. I do not want to sell this book. I am typing the biographies from it. Typed by Lora Radiches: Other surnames mentioned in the biography of LLOYD S. NORTON are, Norton, Miller, Dashiell, LLOYD S. NORTON was born in Bartholomew County, Indiana, March 9, 1894, and is now one of the progressive and representative business men of the younger generation in his native county, where he is successfully established in the retail drug business in the fine little City of Hope, his well equipped store being modern in appointments and service and its trade being of representative order, as marking the communal appreciation of the service given. Mr. Norton is a son of Simeon and Ida (Miller) Norton, and the latter’s father, August Miller, was a representative of one of the sterling pioneer families of Bartholomew County, he having become one of the influential citizens of the county. Simeon Norton achieved success as a farmer in this county, as he did also in his activities as a contractor in road construction, while his secure place in popular esteem was attested by his having been called upon to serve as county recorder and as postmast! er of Hope. The public-school discipline of Lloyd S. Norton culminated in his course in the high school at Hope, and after leaving school he became assistant postmaster of this city, under the administration of his father as postmaster. In 1916 he purchased a local pool room, and this he conducted until he assumed the position of assistant cashier of the Hope State Bank, an executive office to which he was appointed in January, 1918, and in which he served until the following May, when he responded to the call of higher duty and enlisted for World war service. He became a member of the Fortieth Infantry Regiment of the United States Army, and later was transferred to the Seventy-eighth Infantry, at Fort Sheridan, near the City of Chicago. He later was stationed with his command at Camp Custer, near Battle Creek Michigan, where he remained a few months after the armistice had brought the war to a close. He received his honorable discharge in March 1919, and then resumed his ! position with the Hope State Bank. He was associated with that institu tion until May 1921, when he was appointed postmaster of the city. He then resigned and turned his attention to the retail drug business, by purchasing the Dudding Pharmacy, which he has since successfully conducted under the title of Norton’s Pharmacy. This is one of the old and popular drug stores of Hope, it having been established about forty years ago and being now the second oldest store of its kind in the city. In addition to a complete line of drugs, sundries and other goods carried in the modern drug store Mr. Norton also keeps select stocks of wallpaper, paints, varnishes, etc. Mr. Norton is a stalwart in the local ranks of the Republican Party, has been active in its councils and campaigns in his native county and formerly served as a member of the junior Republican committee of the county. He is specially active, influential and popular as a member of the local post of the American Legion and has given prolonged service as its adjutant. He! is affiliated also with the Masonic fraternity. Mr. Norton chose as his wife Miss Mary Dashiell, who was born at Moores Hill, Dearborn County, this state, and who is a daughter of Rev. J. F. Dashiell, a clergyman of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Mr. and Mrs. Norton have an attractive home at Hope and they are popular figures in the representative social activities of their home community. William Norton, great-grandfather of the subject of this review, was born and reared in Pennsylvania, thence he eventually removed to Ohio, and from the latter state he came to Indiana about the year 1830, and became a pioneer settler in Flat Rock Township, Bartholomew County, where he entered claim to a quarter section of Government land and reclaimed the same into a productive farm, this old homestead being still in the possession of the Norton family, whose holding thereof will have represented in 1930 a tenure of a full century. Rev. Jacob Norton, one of the eons of the Wil! liam Norton who was the founder of the family in Indiana, was long and zealously engaged in service as a clergyman of the Methodist Episcopal Church and was a resident of Bartholomew County at the time of his death. Dr. William J. Norton, a leading physician and surgeon at Columbus, county seat of Bartholomew County, and Dr. Fletcher D. Norton, likewise a representative physician and surgeon of that city, are uncles of the subject of this sketch. The family name was one of prominence in the early period of the history of Bartholomew County, and has so continued as one generation has followed another on the stage of life’s endeavors.

I am typing the biographies from it. Typed by Lora Radiches: Other surnames mentioned in the biography of LEWIS L. BUNDY ARE, BUNDY, Hall, Whipple, Gossman, Grubbs, LEWIS L. BUNDY. A prominent businessman of Jackson County, Indiana, who has been actively identified with the milling industry for almost a quarter of a century, is Lewis L. Bundy, who, in association with his younger brother, Otis H. Bundy, owns and operates such important properties as the L. L. Bundy Flour Mill at Vallonia and the Puritan Corn Mill at Medora. In the conduct of these enterprises Mr. Bundy gives evidence of enterprise and progression, qualities apparent also in his promotion of education, good government and social advancement Mr. Bundy was born March 9, 1875, on a farm in Dearborn County, Indiana, and is a son of James L. and Jane D. (Hall) Bundy. His father, who was a native of Pompfret, Connecticut, married Jane D. Hall, of Cincinnati, and after a brief business experience moved to Dearborn County, Indiana, where he passed the remaining years of his life in agricultural operations, becoming one of the substantial and highly respected men of his! community. One of a family of five children, Lewis L. Bundy secured his education in the public schools of Dearborn County and remained on the home farm, associated with his father, until he was twenty-one years of age. He then embarked upon an independent career by renting land, on which he farmed until 1907, in which year he moved to Jackson County and started in the sawmill business, in which he continued until 1916. In the meanwhile, April 1, 1909, he founded the L.L. Bundy Milling Company, and in 1916 admitted his brother, Otis H. Bundy, to partnership, and the name of the concern was changed to the Bundy Brothers Milling Company. In 1920 the brothers purchased the Puritan Corn Mill at Medora, and when this enterprise was destroyed by a conflagration in 1927 a much larger, more commodious and more modern mill replaced it. The brothers still handle lumber in car-lot loads only. The mill at Vallonia was started in 1887, with a capacity of fifty barrels, daily, but at t! he present time has a capacity of seventy-five barrels, and is equippe d with the latest machinery. The Puritan mill at Medora was started about 1872, with an eighty-barrel capacity, and at present is a corn meal and feed mixing mill, handling, 800 barrels daily. Incidentally, it may be noted that the brothers displayed their progressive spirit by being the first mill owners in Jackson County to use a motor truck in their business, this being in 1913. Lewis L. Bundy married Miss Viola Whipple, of Dearborn County, Indiana, and they have two children: Aita Leora, a graduate of Vallonia High School and the Seymour Business College, who is now the wife of Walter Gossman, of Pasadena, California; and Leland Russell, a student at the Vallonia High School. Mr. Bundy is a stanch Republican in politics and township committeeman of Drift-wood Township. He is a member of the Modern Woodmen of America, and belongs to the Methodist Church. Otis H. Bundy received a public school education and was engaged in farming until entering business in partnership wit! h his brother, being at present in charge of the mill at Vallonia. Like his brother, he takes an interest in civic affairs, and at present is a member of the township advisory board. He Is a Republican and an active member of the Methodist Church. Mr. Bundy married Miss Isa Grubbs, of Dearborn County, Indiana, and they have one child, Otis Keith, a student.
