It seems that many people in the region would have spoken both languages. Mine were all born during French rule but show up later listed as being from Germany. I figure we could chalk some of it up to German being the language that they spoke here and the census taker not even asking after 300 or so households, especially if he didn't speak the language.

They are related to Backscheider, Strassell, Lipps... I believe they'd belong to the catholic church. Parts of these family lines moved to Delhi twp., Hamilton County, Ohio and belonged to the catholic church there. I was wondering if there is an index of the graves that I could find or if I would just need to go out and read the headstones??

You may already know this by now, but yes the two girls are one in the same. Thomas Whiteford is my ggg grandfather. Actually I do not know much about the Whiteford family. Here is what I know. My grandmother Martha Streible was named after Martha J. I believe that Thomas was born in Ireland, and that is about all I know. I have just recently started researching this branch of my family.
I am researching John M. Miller and his wife Martha (Hirsch) snd their daughters Lizzie and Kate L. Miller who may have lived in Lawrenceburg in 1860. I am also looking for David W. Krewson in the same area. John M. Miller was a school teacher and moved his family to Lockland, Hamilton County Ohio and is shown there in the 1870 and 1880 census' . I have also checked the Cemetery (Mt. Jackson), where they buried the inmates. Jane has not been found there or in the 1910 census. Is there any record of the inmates in the hospital and when they were there? Thank you for any help.

All I have to go by is my grandmother's notes that a Martha Nelson married George Huffstetter and they had a son named John. Martha died when John was an infant and he was raised by his mother's family (Nelsons). the Nelsons left KY when John was about 10 and moved to Indiana. I know that John had an Uncle Samuel in Dearborn co., IN whom he visited "when he came of age" (about 1844). If this fits in with your Nelsons, it would break a major brickwall of mine because I do not know who Martha's parents were.

I knew there were some burials in the Bright cemetery, but I didn't know there were any Lyness's left in the area. I will try to make contact with them. Joseph had a brother George, I believe, and we have lost all contact with his family. I have read the Dearborn County book on line.
