Are you familiar with any of these people who lived in Monroe, Brown, Owen, Vigo and Clay County, Indiana? My gr grandmother, Nancy Catherine Lawson was born in 1852 in Monroe Co., IN and moved to Greene Co., IN when she married Lewis Newton Michael in 1872. Just after 1900 they came to Clay City where they lived until she died in 1918. Newt died in Terre Haute in 1947. I found a record in Owen Co., IN which shows one of the sisters married to a Fiscus. I don't know which one of the sisters married this man because that record was lost. I have found records which indicate that her brother Gabriel Lawson b 1835 was here in Clay County, IN too, but I think he was moving in and out. Several of his children married in Clay County in the 1880's. I found him in Wayne Co., MO in 1880 and Gabriel was living in Clay City, IN in 1920. He died that year. I think her brother Willis was here too, but there was an older Willis who was one of Andrew Lawson and Martha Jennings descendents also living in Brazil in the 1880's. Gabe's sons Alexander and Lewis C. Lawson were also in Clay County. Cath and Gabe were the children of Amos Lawson and Rebecca Aynes who came to Monroe County from Claiborne Co., TN. Other children of Amos and Rebecca are:Drury Lawson b ca1831, James N. Lawson b 1837, Betsy A. Lawson b 1840, Willis A.Gorman Lawson b 1843, John F. Lawson b ca 1846, Mary Lawson b ca 1848. I believe their first son was William born before 1830. This Lawson family was Melungeons! This has been a confusing family to research, because the Lawson's have all used the same given names, generation after generation. We had always known about the Indian blood in my family. It is only recently that I had heard the term Melungeon applied to us. Mary
